They are not used to being looked straight into the eyes, I notice that some look down while they are sitting there.

Biden is absolutely obtuse. He knows damn well that Roberts cannot and will not answer his dumb, probing, personal, nail you to the cross, questions.

Biden: "It's not abstract it's real."

Roberts: "Well, Senator in the legal sense it is abstract."

Had to consult his SON on how to attack Roberts today.

AAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!

Why is Biden asking about his dad not wanting to be on a life-support system? Isn't that what already exists in a DNR?

Why doesn't Roberts just shut down this whole line of questioning, once and for all?

Biden is asking him to speak as a 'father' and tell us how he'd feel about removing a feeding tube. Asking if any law trumps someone's desire to die. Roberts not taking the bait and says there are cases that come up and will come up and he cannot discuss what he would or would not do, personal views aside. The decision will be based on his understanding of the law and not personal views.

I don't know what to make of Roberts' statement that, like O'Connor, he believes that "real world" considerations must be part of the decision-making process in Court rulings

A real world considertation is that abortion is not about an abstract choice made by a woman.. It is about the real world act of killing babies.

It is typical of a smart lawyer to use his opponents words to tell what he will do.

Historical moment: September 13, 2005 12:01 PM
Roberts looked straight at Biden and talked about incomptetent individuals.

Biden now overgeneralizing about cases of disconnecting feeding tubes.

Paraphrasing Biden:

"Judge Roberts, the decision to pull the plug on a terminally ill individual is one of the most private, personal issues that we might face. It must always remain a totally private matter. By the way, judge, tell us and all the folks watching at home whether you'd pull the plug on a dying loved one or not."

"Roberts looking straight at Biden as he talks about the "case of an incompetent individual"

Roberts should ask him
"You mean incompetent as in Terry Shavio or actually brain dead such as yourself"

Biden is a moron. His feeding tube question is an abstract legal question.
