Behind the Failure: New Orleans' Loser Leaders
NY Post ^ | John Podhoretz

Posted on 09/13/2005 4:04:37 PM PDT by Iluvlabs not libs

The federal government has taken the brunt of the public criticism for seeming out of touch and uncomprehending in those first few days. But what Mayor Ray Nagin and Gov. Kathleen Blanco did and didn't do was worse. They consciously and deliberately assumed an attitude of powerlessness and hopelessness in the face of New Orleans' woes that directly contributed to the lawlessness, chaos and disorder.

Nagin and Blanco acted as if they were impotent bystanders rather than elected officials charged by those who put them in office with maintaining civil order and ensuring the public's safety.

What did they do? They gave angry interviews. They screamed and yelled about the federal government being bad. They cried. They delayed. They said they didn't care very much about looting, and then said they cared a lot about looting, and then didn't do anything about the looting. And they didn't coordinate with each other at all.

I have never seen such incompetence and buck passing as I have with the Louisiana State and Local leaders. Free pass, as apparently those Bus Drivers whom they could barely get to work on a sunny day, let alone in front of a hurricane, to loosley quoate Mary Landrieu

So they pretty much acted like any other Democrat would.

Blame Bush.

Strategy or way-of-life?

The state and local government was protected big time by the media because they are democrats. That is the plain truth of the matter. Now if they were republicans, it would have been an entirely different scenario.

I guess JPod had to write this story after he, K-Lo and the rest of the NRO gang almost went orgasmic calling for Brown's head, and then gleefully receiving the news he had stepped down. Too bad they didn't spend some of their energy last week--when this was in the news--pointing out that the LA DUmmy pols, not the Feds, were at fault in this whole Katrina affair.

We must stop this nonsense of casting aspirsions at the blameless Dimocrats, people. The President has fessed up.

He should fall on his sword.

Dan Quayle is a genius.

He's smart, he's knowledgeable, and he was on the receiving end of one of the rawest deals from the MSM that any republican every had.

He was a much better VP than Gore. He sat in the background and soaked up a lot of stuff.

I think that Dan Quayle would have made a great president.

Why don't we just do away with Louisiana State government and make it a federal entity like D.C. - The crime rate would be about the same as well as tax-payer subsidies.

Yep. CNN and MSNBC were screaming bloody murder at Bush, then Oprah went down there and gave the mayor and police chief creampuff interviews, they cried on cue, then ran off, blaming everything on Bush.

Some people without brains simply need to parrot the MSM no matter that what is said is as far from truth as heaven and hell.

Quayle got a raw deal from the Republicans as well. Showing that they aren't a brainy bunch either to spout the rhetoric of their opponents.

Excuse me. I can take NO more!

Since the founding of New Orleans hundreds of years ago, the inhabitants of this modern day Sodom have always known that they were LIVING BELOW SEA LEVEL on a coast which inevitably is occasionally struck by monstrous hurricanes.

This realization did not occur last week or last year or even within the last hundred years. It has always been this way and the inhabitants have always known that eventually they would be subjected to the wrath and fury of a violent storm.

When you knowingly choose to live in what can only be described as a dredged swamp you know that monsoon rains and breaks in levees can cause catastrophic results.

But hey, this New Orleans. Let's party! Let's Mardi Gras! Let's live for today and who the hell cares about tomorrow.

And so we see the end result of LBJ's Great Society in this swamp of political misery. 7 trillion dollars essentially wasted as poverty, crime, illegitimate births, endemic welfare and illiteracy reach epic proportions in New Orleans. All of which occurs while local and state liberal CommuDem politicians look the other way.

You knew the storm was coming a week in advance. You knew it was getting closer days in advance. But you don't get out, because this is New Orleans and you're smarter than anybody else and sure you live below sea level, but it will never get you. Ooops! You crapped out! Bad throw of the dice!

I don't live below sea level. In fact I have purposely chosen to live in a area hundred of feet above sea level. I don't live in LA or Frisco waiting for "Big One". I don't live in an Oklahoma trailer park waiting to play the Wizard of Oz. I don't live next to a river that breeches its banks. I don't own a house or resort home on a barrier island or along the coast of anywhere. Why, you ask? Primarily because I am not a moronic idiot!

Not a cent to the Red Cross or any other relief effort. These people chose the bed and many died in it. Handing out taxpayer money gratis to these people is sheer idiocy.

If you disagree just wait until LA disappears in a massive quake. Your tax dollars will never be sufficient to handle that mess. But since they think the government will always be there to bail them out in an emergency, they continue to live there.

Yeah, you can roll the dice a million times and come up roses, but eventually the law of averages is going to jump up and bite you! Chomp!
