we have to make the msm do their job and stop spinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnningggggggggg. I no longer even watch msm, or newspapers. They are their own worst enemy.
Republicans will win all elections from now on without the help of msm!
"The president was asked whether people should be worried about the government's ability to handle another terrorist attack given failures in responding to Katrina."
Pres Bush should have responded, "If you live in a city or a state governed by morons like we have here, I'd be plenty worried! Thank you and may God bless America"
Even Fox News has been saying "Full Responsibility" and the talking heads implying the President is taking blame for everything including Blanco and Nagin.
***
Apparently, Fox News corrected itself -- a smaller line under the headline now says "some blame."
Bush popularity is bouncing back and his show of responsibility and leadership will maintain this positive trend.
The Dems and the MSM are applying the old principles, "First impressions last," and "You only get one chance to make a first impression." If the government's response to Katrina is investigated and much of the real blame is eventually placed on local and state officials, and if the fed's response is deemed much more efficient than initially characterized, it won't matter in the least. The mythology of the event has already been established.
It also looks like Bush and Nagin are on friendly terms and Nagin is no longer bashing the Bushies. Gov. Blanco seems to be the odd character who can't work with anyone.
"...(1) the basic problem in New Orleans was the levee failure, and the state and local officials had primary responsibility to upgrade that levee system..."
***
My understanding is that the Corps of Engineers has the principal responsibility for the levees. However, Congress for a lot of years (including times when that august body was Dem and Repub controlled) failed to appropriate enough money to keep the levees properly maintained or upgraded. Now, I think that NO and the State of Louisiana could have done their part to press for money to maintain the levees, but either they did not do so, or some money did come in, but it was spent (read: squandered) elsewhere.
Now that is what I have heard, but of course, there are varying and conflicting stories. All depends on who or what you believe.
This is the reason why the media is always pressing for the president to apologize. They want a clip of him saying something like this so they can "massage" it over and over again. I think it is right that he say, "The Buck stops here" BUT if we are sending money to the governor of that state, she has MUCH to respond to. My only hope is that the contrast between Bush as a leader and Blanco...who now is saying the bodies aren't being recovered fast enough...is evident!
Lara Lakes Jordan is a pro homosexual/lesbian agenda pusher, pretending to be a journalist for the Associated Pl$cks.
She lied about Rick Santorum earlier this year.
Below is the link and the paragraphs about the lies of the pro gay pseudo journalists re Rick Santorum.
http://www.mcjonline.com/news/03a/20030428b.shtml
L. Brent Bozell, President of the Media Research Center, also spoke out against the senator's critics, according to the Culture & Family Institute.
"Gay-left pressure groups like the Human Rights Campaign have shown that they believe that traditional religious values are obscene and should not be expressed by any public official.
"In other words, they are censors, out to blacklist any conservative who dares condemn homosexual behavior. They are trying to impose a religious test for public office, and the media are aiding this campaign at their request. For the media, homosexuality isn't a desirable topic for public debate. It's a topic that comes up only when it's time to tell conservatives to shut up."
"Some supporters are also raising questions about the reporter who first quoted Santorum and who continued to report on the conflict it created. Lara Jakes Jordan is married to Jim Jordan, a former Democratic official who now manages the presidential campaign of Senator John Kerry (D-Ma.). Kerry was among the first to criticize Santorum's remarks ... and the White House for not challenging them.
"The White House speaks the rhetoric of compassionate conservatism, but they're silent while their chief lieutenants make divisive and hurtful comments that have no place in our politics," Kerry said.
Joseph Farah, editor and CEO of WorldNetDaily.com, has gone so far as to suggest that Ms. Jordan deliberately targeted Santorum.
"It's not Rick Santorum who should be forced from office for clearly stating views that have been considered mainstream for the last 5,000 years. It's Lara Lakes Jordan who should be drummed out of the news profession for scoring cheap political points under the guise of news reporting. Rick Santorum should [not] apologize to anyone. It's the Associated Press for sponsoring this political hit piece," Farah said in a recent WND editorial.
Farah also noted that Ms. Jordan was one of several signatories on a letter to her employer in January attacking the news organization for "rolling back diversity" by not extending benefits to domestic partners.
"It seems Mrs. Jordan's ideological fervor is not reserved only for her private life and her corporate politicking," said Farah. "This woman clearly ambushed Santorum on an issue near and dear to her bleeding heart."

Lara Lakes Jordan is the same barrel of rotton rats like the ap reporter who lied about conservatives cheering when GW announced that Clintoon had a heart attack. Those were lies and so is this bs.
You're right...the perception of the slow response will remain despite the facts involved. In most situations, the response was fast BUT the media focus on water not getting to those who were at the Superdome spoke volumes. It doesn't matter that Blanco forbade the Red Cross from going in...it doesn't matter that FEMA had prepositioned food and water at the Superdome while the locals didn't do their job..it doesn't matter that those people should have been evacuated by buses now under water.
The perception is there...and my guess is that as the numbers of dead do not (thankfully) reach the exaggerated predictions, people will not hold it against President Bush...but the media and the democrats will...and they will use it to their full advantage.
A thorough and impartial investigation would be nice -- a panel to take a look at everyone -- mayor, governor, feds and anyone else -- to see if there were failures and if so, what measures could be taken to correct these in the future.
This type of investigation should also delve into the fiction and non-fiction surrounding the entire matter and deal with all of the facts, opinions, allegations, stories, rumors, innuendos and the various conspiracy theories (or as many as possible).
Unfortunately, I think what we will end up with is a mess akin to the 9/11 commission.
....never! It hasn't happened yet, why would we think it would start today? That's why the DUmmies have been able to block Bush nominees and filibuster when it shouldn't be allowed and generally have their way although they're clearly the minority party. They act more like the majority party than we do! GOP Congress pets are purely chicken!
Thanks for the summary...I shall now move on!
Thanks for exposing this POS. I didn't know that about her.
Thanks for the ping and for providing some additional light on the subject.
Name one response that was mobilized quicker including the extra day Blank-O sat on her fat ass.
Lara Lakes Jordan is a true POS.
