I just spoke to a young man at the Office of the Superintendent of the Flight 93 National Memorial. (814) 443-4557.
There have been several threads here at FR regarding the proposed Islam Crescent at the memorial. Like the rest of you, I am appalled that such a symbol would even be considered.
I decided to do something about it. Sunday evening I faxed my objection to them in writing. It was a one page fax, and was a page printed from FR which showed the Crescent. Beside the picture I wrote my name, phone etc, and voiced my objections. The fax number is 814-443-2180.
This morning I called and spoke to the man who answered the phone. He was very professional, I was polite. I gave him my name, and then spelled it to make sure he got it right. I then said Im called to voice my objection to the use of the Islamic Crescent at the Flight 93 Memorial He replied that he would make note of it and make sure that it was passed along. He then asked if there was anything more that I wanted to say. (Note to callers: RESISIT the urge to unload at this point, doing so will negate the effectiveness of your call) I said I was appalled that anyone would even consider that symbol at the memorial. I continued to say that the people responsible should be fired. He said he would pass that along also.
He then asked me for my phone number, which I gave.
Will our calls make a difference? I dont know, but I knew NOT calling isnt going to change things.
I agree Chris, it seems that people are making mountains out of molehills and seeing boogey men everywhere and in everything.
My condolences on the loss of your Dad.
Thank you, I was going to make that post. I appreciate your doing that for me.
(B)(I)The reason the circle of trees is not completed, he said, is because it was severed by the path of Flight 93. From that opening, visitors will be able to gaze down on what has been called the "Sacred Ground," where some of the remains of the passengers and crew still rest.(/B)(/I)
That's not what they are talking about - state symbols per se that is. They are trying to insinuate that my state flag is Muslim.
They are making moutains out of molehills. If the extremists have their way everything that is semi-circular or an arch will be razed. Geeze, how pathetic.
Oh for Heavens sake. If you had done any research you would that the broken circle is their because that is where Flight 93 came in.
Go to Google and do some research. Don't just depend on what you read here. You might be surprised at what you find - "The reason the circle of trees is not completed, he said, is because it was severed by the path of Flight 93. From that opening, visitors will be able to gaze down on what has been called the "Sacred Ground," where some of the remains of the passengers and crew still rest."
I saw it. It ticks me off that people - grown people can be so stupid and such idiots and not do any research. Bots, sheeple, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!! I am MADDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!
The cresent on the flag of South Carolina (which they are talking about in that post) IS NOT AN ISLAMIC SYMBOL!!
Does it matter? Would you accept a gift from the Navajo tribe to the National Holocaust museum of a "Swastika of Embrace"? How about Scottish-donated a "Fiery Cross of Embrace" for the National African-American Museum?
OH FOR HEAVENS SAKE! GROW UP AND STOP MAKING MOUNTAINS OUT OF MOLEHILLS AND LEAVE MY STATE OUT OF YOUR MANIA. MY FLAG DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY ISLAMIC SYMBOLS AND I WILL NOT HAVE IT DEFLAMED AND DESCRATED BY YOUR CHILDISH ATTITUDES. EXTREMISM IS WRONG NO MATTER WHICH SIDE IT IS ON, OURS OR THEIRS.
I'm concerned not about what the memorial is, but what it is not. It should be a tribute to Todd Beamer and the others who sacrificed to save the White House, the Congress, the whole government chain of command. A tribute to taking the fight to the enemy on the first day, not a simple mourning of passengers' deaths.
No, that is one story. I'll try and find the reference and post it for you.
It's not a "broken circle". The designers called it a "crescent", and that's what it is.
In the US, the major relief organization is the "Red Cross". In Islamic countries, it's the "Red Crescent", the crescent being equivalent to a Christian Cross as the primary symbol of their religion.
But in any event, the motivations of the designers is irrelevant. The Islamic radicals that perpetrated this heinous crime will believe that this is a huge victory. The design MUST be changed, lest we reward terrorism and encourage their continued violence.
So what if it is in the shape of a cresent. I will ask again are we not to use the letter "C" which is a cresent? Are we not to aid the NO victims of the flood because the live in the Cresent City. Are we supposed to destroy the jewelry we have that is in the shape of a cresent. Do you want to destroy the moon because it is in the shape of cresent? Do you want to take down the Washinton Monument because it is tall, has windows at the top and looks like a minuret? Architecture is architecture and landscaping is landscaping. If we start doing everything to be "politically correct" we are becoming just like the democrats and other liberal groups who insist of political correctness in everything and want their sheeple the same way.
Yeah, they are going to believe it because of post like this one that make a big deal out of nothing.
I'll stipulate that the shape of this thing may have zero relationship to Islam. But still the controversy is out there in public, and I understand that Islamic media has already discovered it and publicized it as a victory.
The design must be changed. Terrorism must not have a final victory on Flight 93, even if it is only in their imagination.
Bottom line, if the designers that spent so much time and money on this didn't realize that it would be seen by the Islamic world as a victory, then they are very stupid people.
I don't mind the cresent idea if it is properly executed.
For example, let's designate a doggie walking area, plant one bush for each hijacker, trim them into cresents, and let nature take its course.
Prior to 1933, the swastika was a very common symbol in New Mexico, and often found on Navajo rugs. I have a 1920's era road map of Arizona and New Mexico, and the border around the map is made of swastikas.
The Navajo and adjoining states completely abandoned the swastika after Hitlers day.
If, as I suspect, terrorism continues long enough to be inextricably associated with Islam, South Carolina may have to change it's flag.
It's unfortunate, but it will probably be popularly decided within South Carolina.
