Kennedy -- civil rights

Leahy -- Bybee torture memo

Biden -- privacy, personal autonomyand the 9th Amendment

Kohl -- Property rights and civil liberties

Feinstein -- "judicial activism" and Roe vs. Wade

Feingold -- limits of executive powers

Schumer and Durbin have wisely refused to show their hand.

Here's an interesting link regarding Durbin. Durbin ran as a pro-lifer during his years in the House representing a culturally conservative district in Southern Illinois:

Didn't you love what Roberts said in regard to International Law?

Yes Roberts has a very good way of making his arguments that leave the Democrats no reasonable place to go..

#####"Just my guess"#####

I GUESS we're all just guessing! :-)

I do feel optimistic that Roberts will revisit Roe, and maybe overturn it. I think he'll certainly allow many more restrictions on abortion.

I know that. I was just trying to explain what I was doing. You didn't offend me. It's hard to explain things when you are typing answers instead of actually speaking.

I loved that moment when CHUCKIE was asking Roberts about the "attacks" on the judiciary from the "evil right wingers".

Roberts calmly said he dissagreed with some of the quotes and then(the ZINGER) he said there are attacks on the judiciary coming FRom a wide variety of ideologies.

IMHO in other words CHUCKIE everytime you trashed Pricilla Owens and Janice Rogers Brown YOU were attacking the judiciary you maroon!!!!

A PRICELASS MOMENT

Yes, I don't think that some of the dems have figured out that President Bush and Reps., WANT to have an investigative hearing...

I just watched an idiot dem on C-span in the HOUSE, Rep. Kendrick Meek, from Fl. He was up waving around a letter from Pelosi and other dems to the Comptroller of the US...demanding a "commission" to find out about the "accountablity" of Katrina....

What is amazing, is that he and others like him, (jesse jackson, sharpton, oprah) all act like these folks in NO were just fine, until Bush became POTUS....and the storm MADE them poor.

They are in the House and Senate acting like we are responsible for SUPPORTING these people for the rest of their lives...!!!!

I saw Landrieu on the news tonight...she is still DEMANDING things...like no one did anything wrong, except Bush.

BTW, I have decided that Landrieu looks like a bulldog.

I still say we ain't seen nothing yet, and there's a long way to go in this process.

I think the DUmmies have thrown in the towel on this one.

They figure he's replacing a conservative so they intend to "go to the mats" on the NEXT nominee.

They know they can't win this one, they're not going to spend too much energy trying.

I wouldn't be surprised if they knocked off O'Conners sick husband so she could stay on the court and deprive Bush of the slot. I would not put anything past some of them.

No one says you shouldn't have beliefs. The question is whether you will unfairly prejudge cases. Do you think a trial court judge who admitted that she would always throw out death verdicts in death penalty cases because of her personal beliefs should be put on the bench. Or would you think that such prejudgment would be impermissible?

Well now, we get to the problem. You see we wouldn't know that if the person didn't have the guts enough to say so. We wouldn't know if the person in question hid behind what other low life demonrat judges had used as excuses. So that is my point. The nominee should answer how he feels about what he is asked and if that answer he gives is judged unacceptable then so be it.

Otherwise just turn the hearing into a Bar Exam.

Judge Roberts had nothing to fear. Our side has the votes. He could have stood up for stopping the largest holocaust in history - 30 million babies killed IN AMERICA, yet he choose to respond like democratic nominees have. He could have spoken out without fear against the millions plus murders every year of unborn babies but he didn't have the courage.

He was right about one thing though, we do have too many lawyers.

Nevertheless he is a better choice than someone Kerry or Gore would have proposed. But, since they would have been homolovin baby killing worthless rats, that ain't saying much.

The more I see of John Roberts, the more impressed I become. He's quite intellectually gifted..... Senator Biden is very unprofessional and in the wrong line of business.

Your analysis is spot. Your point that any reasonably intelligent host who hopes to garner an audience has to be either right wing or neutral pretty much sums up the success of foxnews, particularly with Greta Von Sustern, a noted lib who keeps it in check.

Mathews just attacked Conservatives .. thinking that would draw an audience. That is a certain prescription of lousy ratings.

Crissy's claim to fame was during impeachment when his honest assessment of right and wrong, regardless of party affiliation, made him shine. His debates with Jonathan Alter and other Clinton apologists were some of the finest hours on TV, especially coming from a staunch dem with a rare conscience. His admission that he voted for Bush in 2000 (which I never believed) apparently struck a chord with the PTB at NBC and he was undoubtedly warned not to deviate from the DNC script. That, coupled with his disagreement over Iraq brought him back to the reservation and his bias turned his audience against him. His gushing over McLame in hopes of bringing back conservatives proves how out of touch he/NBC are with John Q Public.

Sir, I have read your comments with interest. It seems there is likely not an actual human being (flawed as we are) who could muster up to your standards.

IMHO, there are at least - a few good men - out there.

What part of --"It is unethical and improper for a nominee to pre-judge a case that may come before him"--- that you don't understand?

To have opinions about killing babies is not pre-judging a case. All judges have opinions about everything, they are supposed to put those opinions aside and listen to the case and judge it. If they can't do that they must not be judges.
More importantly, they must have the courage to speak up and lead the way against the tide of political cowardliness.

Today Roberts failed miserably in this aspect.

If you can't stand up for Life, especially when your party controls the House, the Senate and the Presidency, you don't deserve squat.

This is especially important when deciding who will sit on the Supreme Court of the most important and best country on the face of the earth.

Like congress ...........if Bush nominates another true conservative for the SC. A number of the liberal judges may quickly retire, as they feel it wont be fun being on the losing side. You GOT TO LOVE IT.
