The Dem playbook
The Hill newspaper gives us a peek at the Democratic playbook for the Roberts hearings. Below are the attack assignments for the Democratic members of the Committee:
Kennedy -- civil rights
Leahy -- Bybee torture memo
Biden -- privacy, personal autonomyand the 9th Amendment
Kohl -- Property rights and civil liberties
Feinstein -- "judicial activism" and Roe vs. Wade
Feingold -- limits of executive powers
Schumer and Durbin have wisely refused to show their hand.

You're welcome. It really was a joy to watch.
Heads up!
If Blanko was impeached and convicted, I assume that Landrieu Junior would take over. He doesn't appear to be competent to manage his checking account.
It would probably just be another nail in the DemocRAT coffin in LA.
JC Watts on H & C just said that Ted Kennedy today was like a child who should have been scolded and sent to bed without his dinner! LOL! Awesome!
The Wash post said Roberts said that Roe is "settled law." It did not provide the exact quote. I would like to see the transcript.
:-}, I don't think so. I"m gonna go watch for myself. Have a good one!
I may be really wrong, because I have to admit that a lot of what Roberts said today was WAY over my head,
but, I kind of got the impression that Roberts was "hedging" his answer about whether he would ever consider taking up Roe v. Wade again...
IOW, I got the feeling that he isn't closing the door on the idea that it could be revisited...
It seems to me that "settled law" is being twisted. Roberts addressed this issue today with Senator Cornyn. Cornyn asked if that meant that it could not be overturned, and Roberts answered that indeed it could be. To me it only means "settled law" as it CURRENTLY stands, but factors could come into play that would be cause for re-consideration at some point. But that's just the opinion of a humble, non-lawyer FReeper.
WaPo is spinning/lying.
Roberts on numerous occasions gave examples of cases that changed existing precedents, and when questioned by Cornyn stated that RvW being "settled law" today doesn't prevent it from being changed in the future.
I'm gonna watch the hearing on replay. I'll let you know what I think tomorrow though without even watching I suspect Roberts did fine and committed to nothing but being an impartial jurist. He's exceptionally smart and his extemporaneous speaking numbers are off the charts. A dangerous adversary and a magnificent ally in the courtroom.
Kyle on LKL now boasting about Roberts and his conduct during the hearings. Uh oh, they announced Schumer was also a guest.
Do you happen to know with which questioner, Roberts first used the term "settled law" vis a vis Roe?
Spector. It's on CSpan 2 right now.
Roberts ran circles around Biden. But that probably didn't require Roberts to use many of his vast number of highly honed synapses to do that. That is the only exchange I have watched so far. Joe tries so hard, but just doesn't have the tools.
Thanks I am watching it now. But I may have missed the "settled law" comment.
Specter made me puke. Didn't he just yesterday claim he was not going to grill him on RvW and then spent his entire 30 minutes on RvW?
Gosh, I can't remember who first brought it up. I do know that Feinstein, Feingold, Schumer,& Cornyn addressed it.
"We couldn't help but notice those beautiful children of yours, those beautiful white children that you adopted from South America. How many little black and brown babies did you pass over to get those two white children, Mr. Roberts? "
Now I'm convinced that this would backfire badly on them. However, I'm not convinced that they realize this, or that even if they do realize this, that they even care. Certainly their base doesn't care - they'll settle for nothing less than an all-out assault on Roberts, and damn the cost.
As far as the media's concerned, they're as bad as the lunatic left base. All that matters to them is their Bush hatred, and slaking their blood lust by tearing his SCOTUS nominee to shreds. And to their twisted way of thinking, what better time than now to play the race card, now that they've used Katrina to stir up the race pot?
I still say we ain't seen nothing yet, and there's a long way to go in this process.
Jay Sekulow was on Hannity and Colmes and just said what you did...
He said that Roberts answered the Roe v. Wade question, perfectly...
He made it known that though it may be considered settled law, the Supreme Court has reversed their own decisions before, and the door is open to this being reversed also.
Well, you could be right. Lunacy and vileness would be no surprise coming from the left. I do think however, that the adoption stuff is off limits and if they are stupid enough to use it, it will be the proverbial nail in the coffin.
