YAHOO has hired a veteran war correspondent to single-handedly report on every armed conflict on the planet.
Video, audio and daily blog entries will be combined to "bring some of the world's most important, yet under-reported" stories to a website called Kevin Sites in the Hot Zone, the company said.
Sites will spend a year reporting from spots deemed armed-conflict areas by the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London, Yahoo said in a statement.
His first reports from a war zone will be published at hotzone.yahoo.com on September 26.
"This project is the most important thing I will do in my life," Mr Sites said in a statement.
"It's an incredible opportunity to help develop the next step in the evolution of journalism, and to tell a different set of stories more completely."
Sites will travel with a backpack of gizmos ranging from a digital camera in a headband to satellite telephones and a solar electricity generator, Yahoo said.
News that Mr Sites gathers will be sent to a mission control centre in the Los Angeles area.
"Yahoo News is proud to provide Kevin Sites with the platform to tell these very important stories," head of Yahoo's media group Lloyd Braun said.
Mr Sites is a former correspondent for CNN and NBC television and his experience includes filing footage of a US Marine shooting an unarmed Iraqi in a Fallujah mosque in November.
The site will also allow visitor feedback and questions, as well as links to resources or organisations working in the areas, Yahoo said.
"We are going to put a human face on every story we cover. Our reporting will be story-driven, like any compelling tale," Mr Sites said.
Yahoo said Mr Sites plans to cover conflicts in six global regions: Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Asia, the Caribbean and South America.
AAP
the MSM's version of Michael Yon?
Not this guy again!
Strange how they missed mentioning Sites unexplained capture and release by islamic radicals in Iraq.
Armed conflicts or Jihad - you decide?

Yeah right...(rolling eyes)LOL..translation: " a way to mold minds and bend news..that is the 'evolution' of journalism."

Let's just start the death watch now. I say by February.

"Good....very good. bwhahahahahaaaa >:o)"
Im sure they will be heavily edited.
Don't expect any of our questions to be posted.
It's because the Hindus, Buddhists, Christians, and Jews just can't get along with the peaceful muslims in this world. If only they would accept their fate and Islam there would be fewer wars in this world. < /sarcasm >
Sites'anti-American antics in Iraq caught the attention and admiration of yet another liberal media outlet.
Get a haircut there, jesus.
Yon has written about certain journalists whom the terrorists have treated kindly. He is very, very aware that he would not receive the easy egress.
LOL! Yea Right! Can we say fair & balanced.....
Why not? the Fedayeen let him go once before.

Why this guy would ever want to be around a pack or Armed Marines during a firefight is beyond me. Sometimes during the heat of battle your 'aim' is a little off sometimes...
Oh yeah...of course you're right. I was hoping he'd gone through all of his 15 minutes already. After his last "story", he had to take off the comments section of his site. He'll probably have to do the same again, or else the mods will be very, very busy.

I'm really glad yahoo is sending this yahoo into the armed conflict areas of the planet. The chances of him catching some flying metal are much greater that way.
