Gulf Coast Isn't the Only Thing Left in Tatters; Bush's Status With Blacks Takes Hit
NY Times ^ | 9/12/05 | Elisabeth Bumiller

Posted on 09/12/2005 2:52:23 AM PDT by Crackingham

From the political perspective of the White House, Hurricane Katrina destroyed more than an enormous swath of the Gulf Coast. The storm also appears to have damaged the carefully laid plans of Karl Rove, President Bush's political adviser, to make inroads among black voters and expand the reach of the Republican Party for decades to come.

Many African-Americans across the country said they seethed as they watched the television pictures of the largely poor and black victims of Hurricane Katrina dying for food and water in the New Orleans Superdome and the convention center. A poll released last week by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center bore out that reaction as well as a deep racial divide: Two-thirds of African-Americans said the government's response to the crisis would have been faster if most of the victims had been white, while 77 percent of whites disagreed.

The anger has invigorated the president's critics. Kanye West, the rap star, raged off-script at a televised benefit for storm victims that "George Bush doesn't care about black people." Howard Dean, the chairman of the Democratic National Committee, said in Miami last week that Americans "have to come to terms with the ugly truth that skin color, age and economics played a significant role in who survived and who did not."

At the White House, the public response has been to denounce the critics as unseemly and unfair. "I think all of those remarks were disgusting, to be perfectly frank," Laura Bush said in an interview with the American Urban Radio Network, when asked about the comments of Mr. West and Mr. Dean. "Of course President Bush cares about everyone in our country."

LOL. The fact that 1/3 of Blacks see through the MSM's attempt to make this racial is hopeful.

And that stupid rapper was booed by an entire stadium of football fans, throughout his performance.

The NYTs is trying to create a story and give it legs.

The New York Times is having a field day using their pages to promote lies and propaganda and then sit back so they can report polling data to show that people have been affected by the selective and outright false reporting.

It's a NY Times article. Therefore, it is no surprise that it is both stupid and false. One-third of all blacks did NOT fall for the mantra that "It's all Bush's fault." Since Bush got only (what) 11% of the black vote in the last election, it's not at all clear that he has lost anything.

Furthermore, the Administration may have solidified its support among whites, as a reaction to the criminal conduct of blacks in New Orleans, the blazing ignorance and incompetence of Mayor Nagin, and the evident bias of the press in covering the story, including this article.

So the NYT wishes.

Propaganda at its worst and oh so transparent.

If the N.A.A.Colored People think this is Bush's fault, who wants their votes anyway. Let the Dems buy their votes.

I can't survive for more than twenty-four hours without government assistance. Being given nothing but water and MREs for three days is worse than what they had to eat on the plantations. FEMA should have given me a $20,000 debit card for all the crap I had to go through.

I believe that the Red Cross has stated that it was the Louisiana Department of Homeland security which kept them from bringing aid to these folks!

The problem is that blacks' status with the rest of the world has "taken a hit." If the dysfunctional black government and the black underclass of NO had been trying to do everything possible to confirm stereotypes and generate animosity, they could not have done a better job.

That's where Jesse and the gang should turn their attention. But there's no money in that, so they won't.

Well the democrat party plantation system has kept the poor poorer and made many a middle class person poor also. Give them just enough to live on and make them think that they would die if they ever tried to make it in the world on their own merit.

And they don't see this and when they falter, be it through natural disaster, or whatever, they blame the ones who want them to be successful.

Sweet.

Well do blacks care about blacks?

Been here for hundreds of years - born, fed, and housed for free in many cases yet unwilling to get out of the way of the biggest storm in memory. Yet it's someone else's fault?

Don't 9/10 vote for the Dems lock-step anyway? There's no other group as loyal. Even 1/4th of 'gays' vote GOP.

There's nothing we can do about it until a sea change occurs in that community.

A) It's the NY Slimes, so they can and will say anything they choose to make up to make Bush look bad, B) if blacks are stupid enough to fall for the 'blame Bush' campaign, then they get exactly what they deserve from the Democrats.

I'd love to have a field day with sponsors of the New York Times, just with people in our FR's community.
