I was just watching Fox News Sunday interview Senator Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, and I couldn't believe what she was saying. Here's my transcript of part of it. Sorry if I've mangled any of the proper names; I'm not going to go to the trouble of looking them up:
Chris Wallace: "Was it incompetent and insulting for Mayor Ray nagin to order a mandatory evacuation, but then to leave buses -- and we have a picture of them -- hundreds of buses idle so that they could be flooded instead of using them to get people out?"
Senator Landrieu: "Well, Chris, I was there as you know through the whole ordeal with state and local officials, and was right there with Louisiana Democrats and Republicans, city council members, police chiefs, mayors, and governors. And could watch what Hayley Barbour was doing and Governor Reilly in Alabama. I am not going to level criticism at the local level. These people did ..."
Wallace: "But I'd like to answer if you could this one significant question ..."
Landrieu: "I will answer it. I'm not going to level criticism at local and state officials. Mayor Nagin and most mayors in this country have a hard time getting their people to work on a sunny day, less [sic] alone getting them out of the city in front of a hurricane. It's because this administration and administrations before them do not understand the difficulties that mayors, whether they're in Orlando, Miami, or New Orleans face. In other words, ..."
Wallace: "But but wait. Senator. Senator ..."
Landrieu: "... this administration does not believe in mass transit. They won't even get people to work on a sunny day less [sic] alone getting them out ..."
Wallace: "But Senator. Senator, there were hundreds of buses sitting in that parking lot ..."
Landrieu: "... less [sic] alone getting them out ... I'll tell you why ..."
Wallace: " ... can I just ask the question?"
Landrieu: "You can, but let me finish ...
Wallace" "Well ... well ... well there were hundreds of buses ... if I might ... here, we're looking at a picture ... there were hundreds of buses in parking lots. THe city ... It wasn't underwater before the evacuation."
Landrieu: "Those buses were underwater ..."
Walace: "They weren't underwater on Sunday ..."
Landrieu: "We had two catastrophes. We had a hurricane and then we had a levee break. When the levee broke, not only did New Orleans go underwater, but Saint Bernard went underwater, and Saint Tammany parish went underwater ..."
Wallace: "But they weren't underwater on Sunday ..."
Landrieu: "... and Plackman went underwater. And because the mayor evacuated the city, we had the best evacuation between Hayley Barbour and Kathleen Blanco of any evacuation I've sen. I'm 50 years old, I've never seen one any better."
Walace: "But there were 100,000 people left in the city."
Landrieu: "They did 100,000 people left in the city because this federal government won't support cities to evacuate people, whether it's from earthquakes, tornados, or hurricanes. That's the truth, and that will come out in the hearings."
Pffft, senator Vitter has turned into one of THEM on this issue.
Have you seen or heard the comments coming out of the "voter" mouth? They are all just as stupid as this senator. The people voting Dem have NO sense and going through a hurricane and losing everything won't change these Government needing junkies vote. The crap spewing out of their Gov. needing mouth has been pathetic! Sorry for the rant but these ungrateful thugs have worked my last nerve. Did you hear the moron staying at the Astrodome commenting on how "he already used up his $2000 and that was F'n Bull*@it. They should give us all $20,000 for we have had to go through. We are being treated like slaves".
What?!!! Man that pisses me off.
Nevertheless, there were still people who were willing to be evacuated. Those people who made their way to shelters ahead of time. There should have been some of those unused flooded busses awaiting, loading, and leaving. Evacuation is for those who want to leave.
Every Major Hurricane I know of, has it's stories of defiant ones, who wish to have a "Hurricane Party" and wind up dead. You shake your head, mutter "stupid" and go on.
With Democrats in charge of disaster preparedness in NOLA we have been given a reminder and aftertaste, of what The election of Gore would have wrought for us four years ago.
That's funny...according to RFK Jr., Katrina happened because of Barbour's complicity with Bush against Kyoto...so confusing...I need to buy a vowel...
I didn't believe it before... but, do now. The woman is certifiable... she's as big a loon as Blank-O. I also heard this morning that Amtrak was leaving NOLA on Saturday or Sunday and called the Mayor to ask if they wanted to have them evacuate people and Nagin turned them down.
I think Fox took off the gloves today. They had another loon from the DNC on about 45 minutes ago spewing all the talking points and Paige Hawkins kept trying to ask about the buses to which she lied and then the GOP guest just nailed the woman to the wall -- nicely, but did it.
Now I think about it -- doesn't support evacuations??? Uhhhh wasn't Florida evacuated four times last year? Fact is LA didn't have an evacuation plan.
what an unintelligent idiot... "work on sunny days? best evacuation? i'm 50-years old?" what??????
Since Clinton, Democrats cannot answer the question. They either attack a Republican or change the subject instead of answering the question. Hannity interviews people every week who cannot answer the question. Their standard answer is "it is Bush's fault." Bush caused the Hurricane!
They are trained to blame Bush. They are like Blame Bush Robots.
That is pretty damn funny! Thanks for the laugh.
Maybe Dean, Jackson, Sharpton, Kennedy, Boxer, and Schummer all get high on the same stuff.
can you imagine if Guiliani's local police force and fire fighters refused to do their jobs--essentially put their lives on the line--after the Twin Towers were struck down?
Ms. Ladrieu's comments are insulting... good leaders know how to surround themselves with competent people they can trust to execute the duties... Mr. Nagin is the perfect picture of who is NOT a good leader...

Every time that stupid excuse for a United States senator opens her mouth she digs herself another hole.
That was my exact reaction too.
Calling all City government employees from across the nation. Senator Mary Landrieu of Louisiana just stated that your mayors can't get you to come to work!
