Sean Penn: Hero In New Orleans

September 10, 2005 2:31 a.m. EST

Joanna Wypior - All Headline News Staff Reporter

New Orleans, Louisiana (AHN) - Actor Sean Penn has been hailed as a hero and a huge helpful hand, saving up to 45 people in hurricane-torn Louisiana, despite finding and having to deal with a hole in his boat last week.

"I witnessed him rescuing up to 40 people," presidential historian and author Douglas Brinkley told the New York Daily News. "He was up to his waist in toxic muck...I'm not going to comment on Sean's trips to Iraq or Iran, but in this case, he was an American hero."

During an interview on CNN's Larry King Live, Penn said there was not enough being done to help to victims of Hurricane Katrina.

"Most of the National Guard presence was in the air," Penn says. "They were doing a great job, those that were there. But there weren't enough there."

Who said he rescued 40 (or now 45) people? Brinkley even went back and rewrote parts of Kerry's bio. So are we suppose to believe that liar?
I think Penn made a mess of his whole little rescue plan and now is desperately trying not to look like the a$$hole he really is. He just has more media suckups to help him is all.

"I am not buying it either"

Right you are.

Sean Penn gets to go SAVE people? Meanwhile the powers to be are refusing airboats from Florida and keeping various agencies out, while the military is evacuating with choppers.

I'm just certain Sean went to Lt. Gen. Russel Honore and said I'm checking in for duty sir.

More than most likely the General found out about the grandstanding and had Penn removed along with his sister Oprah. The official reason might have been that their tears were threatening the newly operational pumps.

Looks like everyone was doing that job already.
Times-Paicayune kept a detail record of the event. No mentioning of Sean Penn.

We need boats!
Aug 30,
Tuesday, 4:30 p.m.

"Officials have issued a call for anyone with a flatboat to help rescue people stranded by the flood.

Anyone with a boat, especially a flatboat, who can safely make it to the intersection of Cleary and Airline Drive in Metairie is asked to go there."

Thur Sept 1 Coast Guard rescued 3,000 stranded victims.

Fri Sept 2 Coast Guard rescued 4,000 stranded victims.

Don't forget Geraldo Rivera plea to help the people. With the swell of victims pouring out of the flood, the city of New Orleans open up the Convention Center. The city officals forgot to tell FEMA about this and they were stranded again!

"Convention center. I understand Geraldo Rivera was talking about those people on Wed. afternoon. No other mention in media until late Wednesday night. This is crucial because of FEMA’s response that they didn’t know about those folks until late morning on Thursday. BTW, I need a link to Brown’s statement that day."

This site has all the articles from Times-Picayune from that fateful disaster. Tons and Tons of information.

The Superdome was interesting. People were leaving the shelter to go back into town to loot while the authorities were rescuing people off roof tops!

How do you think the folks he took out feel? When liberal bozos get it right (like this or Franken spending Christmas in Iraq) we should be adults and acknowledge it. The alternative is to be petty and childish.

Of course, the helo crews and rescue swimmers don't have their own PR team going with them making press releases.

...nor do they want one. The REAL rescue workers see this as a job that needs to get done. Anything that gets in the way is considered wasteful. Penn's photographer (and his delicate equipment) is taking up space on a boat that could otherwise be used by an EMT, fireman, etc.

I respectfully disagree. I don't consider Franken & Penn's situations to be equivalent. By GOING to NOLA, Penn is most certainly going to attract a lot of personal attention at the scene. This detracts from the job at hand. Penn is in the way.

If he wanted to be helpful he should send some supplies down there at his own expense. Putting himself at the scene is just a waste of rescue resources.

Even if he did take 40 (or even 4) people to safety? I suggest we ask those folks what they think of his actions.

He was 'patroling' a street with a shotgun. His press agent was quick to point out the shotgun was unloaded.

funny. that's what Kerry's press agent said about his partrol in Vietnam

Oh, I know that from personal experience. The best recognition is when you get home, alive, and in one piece.

Unloaded? How was he going to stop the bad guys? Harsh language?

To quote a Las Vegas Metro cop I was talking to one time, "What the hell good is an unloaded gun?"

Brinkley is a left wing hack historian! He couldn't shine Ambrose's shoes. He is definitely qualified to be Penn's personal historian and biographer bi..h!!

People who are there primarily to gawk at a movie star? OK by me, if you think that their answers will be 'enlightening'...

People that think Sean Penn is A-OK because of his efforts in NOLA should realize that:

1. Sean is doing it for the cameras, and

2. If he weren't he'd be punching the photographers in the nose like he use to on a regular basis whenever he felt they were 'in the way'.

He probably was simply providing rides for citizens from point "A" to point "B."

I thought "resume enhancement" was bad?
(just ask Mr. Brown...)

It's getting harder to tell reality (well, articles-purporting-to-be-news) from parody these days.

These folks sat surrounded by water so they could "gawk at a movie star"...is that what you suggest? I say ask the people he took to safety what they think. I believe their opinion counts more than mine or yours.
