When Kathryn Stickler decided to organize a September 11 memorial at her school, she thought the administrators would be thrilled. The junior at Mercy High School in Farmington Hills, Mich., wanted to plant 3,000 small American flags in the schoolyard honoring those who were killed in the terrorist attacks.
But when she approached school officials with the idea, their reaction surprised her.
"I was immediately shot down," Kathryn said. She said administrators told her that 3,000 flags was too many and suggested that 30 was a better number. Kathryn disagreed and decided to procure the flags on her own. She searched the Internet for phone numbers of local American Legion members and asked them to donate flags.
"She felt it was very important that we honor each one of the victims," said Kathryn's mother, Lesley.
Kathryn persuaded members of the Farmington and Milford American legions to donate more than 3,000 flags. But when she returned to school administrators, they still disapproved of the project, Kathryn said.

"They said it was a fire hazard," she said. "That sounded ridiculous to me."
Yeah right! They keep trying to shoot this girl down.
Of course, if her proposal had included a proportional number of crescent flags of Islam, the administration would have loved her multicultural idea.
Give UBL some credit...he knew when to strike the US. After a momentary beltch of pride and indignation over the attacks, the anti-American/self-hating/political-correctness crowd has reasserted its influence over our society. The terrorists are winning.
I wonder if school officials would worry about "stepping in the toes" of people who support the war!
Yippee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I bet Bill is a Freeper.
A Michigan legislator has introduced a bill that would allow middle schools to divide math and science classes by gender. State Senator Michael Switalski said his intent is to prod schools to provide more options for students and parents.
Carolyn Witte, principal of the all-girls Mercy High School in Farmington Hills, applauds the measure, saying same-sex education can make math and science more "accessible" to girls by eliminating social pressures.
Same thing happened here in MA a while back, kid wanted to put flags in the cemetary, adults went balistic, kid perservered, kid won!
Sorry, I don't think it was flags, flowers maybe, but bottom line is the kid won!
For pity's sake...every form of tyranny is "peaceful" if you bend over and take it!
The school is a Catholic Girl's High School
When I picked up my son from school today, he's a 1st grader, the first thing he said, excitedly, was that a soldier came to his class today in uniform. He said he even had a gun on him but it was in a holster. I'm waiting for the fallout by the leftist. His teacher is new at the school. I hope she'll survive the weekend.
That sounds like a good excuse. It WOULD attract all those flag burners. /sarcasm

US Parks Department WILL build a memorial in Pennsylvania where United Airlines Flight 93 went down killing all aboard on Sept. 11, 2001 as they fought the islamic terrorists that wanted to crash the jet into another building full of innocent civilians including women, and children.
The choice of an appropriate monument?
An islamic CRESCENT of EMBRACE pile of crap!

So this girl and her flags hopefully has better success than Pennsylvania has.
Oh, man. Just the thought of that happening makes me wanna hurl.
My oldest son mentioned to me one day several years ago that his school never flew the flag.
I said that he should try to talk to his teacher or a principal about it.
He first talked to his teacher. Nothing happened. Then he talked to the principal who assured him that the janitor was supposed to put it up every day but had probably been too busy. Nothing changed.
Finally he started to go in each morning and bug the office staff about no flag flying. Apparently he bugged the right folks because the flag started flying each day.
He's a cool kid.
She said a school official told her, "We don't want to step on people's toes who don't believe in the Iraq war."
I'm offended by moral midgets that don't believe in the war in Iraq.
"don't believe in the Iraq war."
Someone should point out to the school administrator that the war is not an article of faith. A peoson may not support the war....but weather you do or not it's a fact...it's real.
That's sad. My sister went to Mercy (that Mercy, that is).
