The Fox News Channel's Major Garrett made another appearance on the program this evening, following up on his blockbuster story yesterday. Among other things, Garrett got confirmation --on camera-- of the Louisian State department of Homeland Security's blocking of the delivery of relief supplies to the Superdome and the Convention Center. In addition, Garrett received confirmation from senior Salvation Army officials in Washington, D.C. that the Salvation Army's efforts at supplying the evacuees were also repeatedly blocked. Radioblogger will have the transcript up later, but the key takeaway was when I asked Garrett if characterizing Louisian's preparation for the storm as "abysmal" was accurate and he confirmed that indeed it was. Read the whole thing.
I also asked Garrett why no other network is on this story. He can't offer an answer for that, event hough he points out that this isn't a hard story to get, and Fox News needn't be credited. All CNN has to do (or MSNBC or CBS) is call the Red Cross and get a camera over there.
Here are the relevant paragraphs:
He says he has been in contact with about 40 other New Orleans business leaders since the storm. Tomorrow, he says, he and some of those leaders plan to be in Dallas, meeting with Mr. Nagin to begin mapping out a future for the city.
The power elite of New Orleans -- whether they are still in the city or have moved temporarily to enclaves such as Destin, Fla., and Vail, Colo. -- insist the remade city won't simply restore the old order. New Orleans before the flood was burdened by a teeming underclass, substandard schools and a high crime rate. The city has few corporate headquarters.
The new city must be something very different, Mr. Reiss says, with better services and fewer poor people. "Those who want to see this city rebuilt want to see it done in a completely different way: demographically, geographically and politically," he says. "I'm not just speaking for myself here. The way we've been living is not going to happen again, or we're out."
Yep, less sniping at their own, more defending the agenda is what is needed. Especially from the "conservative" punditry and the "Republican" Senators.
This is why I am now PRAYING that they have the congressional investigation...they have said they have subpeona power, and I want to see her on TV...and have her answer all of these questions...
And, once we find out who will be on the committee, we need to be sure and send these articles so they can do their homework!!
Best news I have heard all day! Thanks.
Both were blocked by the State government.
When all is said and done, the city and state are the ones who really messed up.

"Paging the Congressional Black Caucus...."
The Congressional Black Caucus is a bunch of Democrats who only exist to trash the Party that freed their ancestors.
Seems like he's doing better grasping reality than Laura Ingraham, at least.
Small wonder the dems do not want a nationally televised hearing, they are pushing for a closed door commission comprised of their boot licks.
Good. It should be a slam dunk!
I'm too lazy to try to find it tonight but I believe it was Pelosi who said (before Katrina) that they were going to do everything possible to destroy the President's credibility. (Katrina just fit the agenda...and with any justice, it will come back to devour the Democrats.)
What has made me so angry though is that the Republicans in Congress just step out of the way when the media and the Democrats come charging. It seems the majority of them have convictions as deep as the next poll...very few leaders among them.
Sorry, Nancy Pelosi, no independent commission for you. All you'd do is cover up for the Democrats, and trash Bush. Jamie Gorelick and Richard Ben Veniste send their regrets, but they won't be there this time.
Yes, I have heard her commercials....and I don't like them..or her.
I find myself feeling uncomfortable FOR Scott, because he just isn't forceful enough with the dimwit media...
I could see him quitting..for the reason of working on him Mom's campaign...
I know if I were him, I wouldn't like the crap he has to put up with everyday...I would have lost my temper and told Gregory to shut up a long time ago.
I think Perry has sealed his campaign again, unless something goes horribly wrong, from bringing the evacuees here from LA.
I have contacted Graham, DeMint and Joe Wilson. I am too cynical, however, to think it will accomplish anything other than more form letters like the ones I FINALLY got this week in response to the whole judicial nominees COMPROMISE nonsense...Somebody with an R after his or her name needs to grow a pair...fast.

Amazing that we have to go through this political c**p before the truth comes out....which it will!
Oh, the media lurks here. Everyone lurks here. The problem is that they don't listen to what we say, unless we're bashing reps. And even then they don't understand the reason Reps are critisized. the Reps don't understand why they are critisized.
You trust Zogby (when they deliberately skew the numbers AND ADMIT IT), rather than a reliable fellow freeper like MOI??
SHAME on you.......silly man.
Do some research, and find out for yourself, or I'll think YOU're drinking someone's Kool-aid.
(Silly......just silly!)
