The Fox News Channel's Major Garrett made another appearance on the program this evening, following up on his blockbuster story yesterday. Among other things, Garrett got confirmation --on camera-- of the Louisian State department of Homeland Security's blocking of the delivery of relief supplies to the Superdome and the Convention Center. In addition, Garrett received confirmation from senior Salvation Army officials in Washington, D.C. that the Salvation Army's efforts at supplying the evacuees were also repeatedly blocked. Radioblogger will have the transcript up later, but the key takeaway was when I asked Garrett if characterizing Louisian's preparation for the storm as "abysmal" was accurate and he confirmed that indeed it was. Read the whole thing.
I also asked Garrett why no other network is on this story. He can't offer an answer for that, event hough he points out that this isn't a hard story to get, and Fox News needn't be credited. All CNN has to do (or MSNBC or CBS) is call the Red Cross and get a camera over there.
As hard as this is to contemplate...that someone would do this...
Just think, IF it was as is suspected, not only would they be getting back at Bush...but they would be getting "rid" of a bad area of town, with the poverty and such...how many speeches have we heard from Sharpton, Jackson, about what a horrible place these people came from...
One way to clean, is "hose it down"....and then the poor are scattered around like they are...and the Gov. and Mayor doesn't have to worry about them...they become America's problem...
Someone up the line, either here or on another thread, said essentially the same thing.
The more of this political Cluster Foxtrot I see, the more plausible the scenario seems.
Mark Steyn would be even better ... the media wouldn't even realize that he was showing them to be the fools they are ... :-)
That's what I suspect is coming. Greed, graft, cronyism, favoritism, nepotism.
Anyone stop to wonder that maybe when Newt says "We need to do better" he means ALL Americans not just the Republicans as the Dinasour Media spins it? Either way, however, I agree that Newt is being careless of the spin here and that raises questions in my mind about his qualificantions for the job.
Tony Snow Show

Who thinks this? < aside from many here on FR? >
BTW-let's all email this Major Garrett story out to every talk show host and to EACH OF OUR SENATORS followed by a phone call...and our reps, as well.
Let's not assume they ALL know abou this, and let's let them know, in case they do know about it, that we expect them to do something...let's each do our part to NOT ALLOW the media to ignore this in their effort to hurt our President.
Our President needs us right now, let's all step up.
No one's whining here. We're fightin' mad, and that's not the same thing as whining. We're also planning how best to get the word out. That's not whining either.
Now, if only the so-called Republican spokespeople would do the same instead of saying idiotic things like, "Well, we can all agree that there is plenty of blame to go around." In point of fact, the blame should be placed entirely where it belongs--with the governor of Louisiana and the mayor of New Orleans.
Laura is supposed to be the Speaker at Our State Federated Republican Women's meeting in West Palm Beach on the September 21. I hope she is prepared with a flack jacket, if she starts the same kind of crap she has been spewing.
Seen it? Yes. Surprised? No.
I think I will start listening to Tony online if I can find a station that works. She did list being an American first, a conservative next and then being a republican was way down her list...I agree with everything you said...I am on a ping list for her that's how much I enjoyed listening to her...but I think someone said last week that she started trashing the president and was on someone's list (maybe Howling's?).
I figure we took on Dan Rather and won, so if we all put our minds to it, we can take this on too. Just make sure everyone we know knows this and tell them to pass it on to everyone they know.
Except LA was starting to turn red. Blanco and Mary barely won. Getting rid of their voting block in NO is political suicide, isn't it?
I would feel better if he made the case of how much better the private organizations did then any of the Govt enities. Just feeding into the Bush Bashing rasies questions in my mind about Newt's qualifications for the job.
NAGIN: I need reinforcements, I need troops, man. I need 500 buses, man. We ain't talking about -- you know, one of the briefings we had, they were talking about getting public school bus drivers to come down here and bus people out here.
I'm like, "You got to be kidding me. This is a national disaster. Get every doggone Greyhound bus line in the country and get their asses moving to New Orleans."
Nagin was waiting for the Greyhound busses to show up. Apparently regular old school busses weren't plush enough for him.
I know--our evening radio line up sucks in this area of Texas. Kinda like those Dish Network commercials where the tvs suck...lol
Sean was just on a roll on this subject with Jessie Jackson and Jessie came back saying Homeland Security said RC couldn't go in.... Sean must not know it was STATE homeland security, not Federal Homeland Security -- DARN!!!! We had an opening and Sean dropped the ball.
I think they need to get Gen. Honore to be the press secretary...he wouldn't take any crap from Terry Moron or the Gregory idiot from MSNBC!!!!
That's a good point I hadn't thought of.
