The Fox News Channel's Major Garrett made another appearance on the program this evening, following up on his blockbuster story yesterday. Among other things, Garrett got confirmation --on camera-- of the Louisian State department of Homeland Security's blocking of the delivery of relief supplies to the Superdome and the Convention Center. In addition, Garrett received confirmation from senior Salvation Army officials in Washington, D.C. that the Salvation Army's efforts at supplying the evacuees were also repeatedly blocked. Radioblogger will have the transcript up later, but the key takeaway was when I asked Garrett if characterizing Louisian's preparation for the storm as "abysmal" was accurate and he confirmed that indeed it was. Read the whole thing.
I also asked Garrett why no other network is on this story. He can't offer an answer for that, event hough he points out that this isn't a hard story to get, and Fox News needn't be credited. All CNN has to do (or MSNBC or CBS) is call the Red Cross and get a camera over there.
Unlike 9/11, a tornado, or an earthquake....
WE all knew for days, that this hurricane was going to hit land somewhere...and that it would be a miracle if it was less than a CAT 3, when it hit land...
Therefore, the dems at city, state, and national levels, had 3 or more days to plan ways of how to deal with this...
and the Gov. was probably FURIOUS at Bush for calling her and telling her to order an evacuation...and with Landrieu and Clinton...behind her...the rest, as they say, is history.
I need to do the same. All this talk about "rope-a-dope" and so on might have merit, but the fact remains--approval ratings are going down, and it's undeserved.
BTTT
Can someone explain HOW any of this is George Bush's fault?
I fear that is correct. How umimaginable, sitting around when they knew a big one was coming and thinking in those terms, so angry that they couldn't get him with all of those manufactured scandals (Rathergate, DSM), couldn't turn Iraq into Viet Nam and the American people against it in sufficient numbers). But this really is beyond the pale.
Landrieu's brother is also Lt. Governor!
We all know the media is EXTREMELY biased. However, I could not believe the rancor tonight. I watched CBS News and CNN (I know, I know, I was asking for it). In not so many words, they were calling President Bush a failed leader. Over and over they hammered the same theme. Somebody called these guys to the carpet and told them to step up the pressure TEN FOLD on the President--OR ELSE!!! It was VERY obvious, AND they did not even mention Blanco or Nagin.
Please keep praying for President Bush.
Dude! I'm not cowering in the corner. All I want are more administration people and republicans telling the media to stuff it! Not everyone is as informed as folks around here are and they need to hear a more forceful reply from the republicans and the White House. I wasn't throwing in the towel or waving a white flag, or hanging out with Hillary. I want the party to fight back for the president.
I don't know. His reporting on the Cindy Sheehan debacle was really lacking. I've about placed him in the same league with Geraldo.
This was first heard in an interview of the Red Cross President on the Larry King Show on 9/2.
O'Reilly alluded that the dems plucked six people from the disaster and took them to DC to do a Cindy Sheehan -- then didn't follow up on the actual story in any depth.

I think Bush offered Federal assistance. She was under no obligation to take either option offered. Both options offered would have the governor giving part of her power to the Feds, a move that she (and DEMs in general) find objectionable - regardless of the cost in human suffering below them.
I speculate that one of the two forms of "assistance" (or power taking) offered was to federalize the NG that was in place. The other ws to use active-duty military under the Insurrection Act.
Common to the two options is the governor asking for the feds to control the forces that would restore order. The difference is that one option uses NG troops, the other used active-duty military (Insurrection Act).
BOTH!
I turned Laura off today for the first time. I'm just listening to Rush and reading FreeRepublic now. Although Quinn is good too.
Rush and probably Hannity (I usually don't listen to him). There is some guy that is on in our area for just an hour and he is supposedly an actor, ran as a republican (lost), etc. and he is into big time Bush bashing and cutting down the administration--think his name is Jerry Doyle. And Savage had Pat Buchanan on the other night and I knew it was going to be a full fledged Bush Bashing Festival--I actually turn to NPR when these two clowns are on or like today I found a nice jazz station. Rush was like a breath of fresh air today (well he is every day to me)--tells it like it is and will actually inform the public about what the dems are up to. Laura decides to use her air time to critize President Bush...several people called in trying to explain to her why they think she is wrong but she was too bullheaded to understand them. I sent her an email asking doesn't she understand that we hear the trash talking about our president 24/7 from the MSM and that we need to hear information SOMEWHERE that the dems have screwed up and how corrupt they are, etc...she automatically assumes that Bush was slow to respond because Kristol tells her that...don't blame Kristol as much...we all have his number and have for years about his loyalty to this administration...but I am very disappointed in Laura. BTW she said the Republicans do not own her...being a republican is way down the list to her...
I heard Newt on with Tony Snow...he is awful...he is critcal of everything that President Bush has done...but he doesn't say how...
He just says that what we need is "someone who thinks creatively, outside of the box", instead of just throwing money at the problem...
NOw, I am not any happier than anyone else about just handing $2000 to people...
But, I dare say...that if President Bush did "think out of the box" he would be even more excoriated than he has been.
I don't.
I just have one thing to say to your response. DAN RATHER.
The whole family has always been a little on the shady side. I was dismayed when Mary became senator.
I want him to feel some pain.
Newt may very well be campaigning for President in 2008. So he has to knock around the President as to look "better than Bush."
