Major Garrett new blockbuster----Salvation Army efforts at supplying the evacuees BLOCKED.
Hugh Hewitt ^ | Sept 8 2005 | Hugh Hewitt

Posted on 09/08/2005 4:42:37 PM PDT by Dog

The Fox News Channel's Major Garrett made another appearance on the program this evening, following up on his blockbuster story yesterday. Among other things, Garrett got confirmation --on camera-- of the Louisian State department of Homeland Security's blocking of the delivery of relief supplies to the Superdome and the Convention Center. In addition, Garrett received confirmation from senior Salvation Army officials in Washington, D.C. that the Salvation Army's efforts at supplying the evacuees were also repeatedly blocked. Radioblogger will have the transcript up later, but the key takeaway was when I asked Garrett if characterizing Louisian's preparation for the storm as "abysmal" was accurate and he confirmed that indeed it was. Read the whole thing.

I also asked Garrett why no other network is on this story. He can't offer an answer for that, event hough he points out that this isn't a hard story to get, and Fox News needn't be credited. All CNN has to do (or MSNBC or CBS) is call the Red Cross and get a camera over there.

This has turned it to something truly despicable both in what happen and in what the MSM is doing, not investigating the fact, but just blaming Bush.

Even FoxNews Shemp and Geraldo were using histrionics that intimated the federal authorities were standing in the way of getting relief to the ThunderDome and Convention Center.

God Bless Brit Hume for having the sense to research some facts and get them out. And Major Garrett too, for the same.

Hello, troll. On the off-chance that you are simply clueless, the issue is this:

The democrat government of Louisiana denied succor to over 20,000 of the poorest of their constituents, in order to score political points against the President. They are being aided in this by the leftist press.

If you disagree with this, go to DU. We are armed with the truth, and we WILL win!!

Miss Marple, your comments bear repeating ... loudly:

I suggest everyone call their senators and congess critters and ask WHY they aren't speaking out.

Those people, even if they can't get air time with the leftist media, could be sending statements via e-mail, mailings, local appearances, etc. We need to make them crawl out of their holes and DO IT!!!

Her Aunt Phyllis Landrieu is on the Orleans Parish School Board,

If I recall the minutes correctly, Phyllis Landrieu seemed to be in control of the meeting.

People would make their case or statement, and Landrieu would respond with a one sentence directive or comment.

It was Phyllis Landrieu who effectively told the Board to go back to ask the City about fuel and personnel support (e.g., $$$).

I'm not sure what to place primary importance on in your response. I guess what is really important to establish first is that there is no "we" when it comes to polls.

I don't tout polls. Ever. I was a major critic of polling during the election. I was told I was choosing not to deal with reality when I stated I believed they were either a) rigged b) not properly gauging the public attitude. I was right, they were wrong, as it turns out.

The only polls that were accurate were RASS, Maxon Dixon, Battleground and FOX was lower by two points but the margin of victory was the same. If a poll is not one of these I will not even grant they have credibility, nor can anyone reasonably make the case I should take polls that were horribly wrong election day as being better a few months later. It doesn't work that way.

Second, when I DO highlight a poll not among the named, I do so with vocal acknowlegment I still think they are flawed, but that if his numbers are good in flawed polls, they are even better in reality. This is the case I make with ABC and Gallop's latest polls. I tout them because I believe they tried to get bad numbers, and they couldn't.

Third, What polls is he getting whacked on? We're only seen three He did well in the flawed gallop and ABC polls. Do you mean the third, PEW? If so, that one admitted they oversampled blacks! They admitted it was a push poll. So, again, where's the evidence.

As to your last, you can stand by your statements on communications from the W.H. I never addressed that point to begin with.

Bush simply should boldly and repeatedly state, "We will get to the bottom of the delay in getting help to those at the Superdome. We will find out exactly who should have evacuated and fed the poor of New Orleans who were trapped by the flood with no escape."

True. Perhaps he should have a prime time address, as these afternoon speeches don't get too much coverage, just a thought.

I see this as a parallel to the big battle scene in Braveheart when the English (Dems) come charging at William Wallace & Co. (Bush and Repubs). As cavalry charges Wallace incourages "HOLD...HOLD" until the reveal the lances and the English promptly impale themselves.

Let's hope Pelosi and the babbling nit wits mouth off innacuracies while ignoring the real culprits and dig a nice deep hole.

This is probably so that they can stick with the line that people must be evacuated because they have no services. It is also nice and handy for grabbing there guns on the way out:

The homes will be looted and taken over by gangs who will confiscate the whole area. No one will be able to get back in or the area will be condemned. Then "they" will buy the land for cents on the dollar and use the disaster rebuilding funds to pay for their enlargement of the casino/entertainment empire.

My thinking as well. There's a real stink in the air with these people, and something malevolent is cooking.

I'd bet the dems have more contingency plans to force the impeachemnt of the president than they do plans for real emergencies.

Can bus their constituents to the polls, but not out of the way of a hurricane. - bump-

Well, one thing is they are hitting the local media. I was listening to my local talk radio station yesterday, and the DJ teased the interview with Jim Talent thusly: "And next we will speak to Senator Jim Talent who has been surprisingly critical on the subject of the government's response to Katrina".

After I picked myself off the floor, I listened to the interview, and found the tease to be false. Talent didn't criticize the President or the "federal response".

Louisiana Officials in Flood-Money Scam

Nine months before the Hurricane Katrina disaster, three Louisiana Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness officials were indicted for obstructing an audit into flood prevention expenditures.

In a November 2004 press release, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Louisiana announced:

Story Continues Below

"A federal grand jury has returned two separate indictments charging three members of the State Military Department with offenses related to the obstruction of an audit of the use of federal funds for flood mitigation activities throughout Louisiana.
"The two emergency management officials were senior employees of the Louisiana Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness. Both were charged with conspiracy to obstruct a federal audit."

Gov. Kathleen Blanco told Louisiana's News-Star at the time that she was disturbed by the indictments. She said the National Guard is cooperating with the investigation "as I expect them to do."

Reports of rampant corruption among Louisiana's state and local agencies have been cited in recent days to explain why officials were so ill-prepared to deal with the Katrina disaster.

I'm still trying to figure out how Bush screwed up? Maybe I'm slow, but I just don't see it. I'm sick of the Repubs all saying "We all agree that the Feds/Fema was slow.......". Why are they repeating this when, given the timeline, the time it takes to organize troops, etc. etc., it's proving NOT to be true?
