School Buses
Claim: Photograph shows school buses caught in a flooded New Orleans parking lot.
Status: True.

Stuff like that is part of the reason the governor is supposed to do a full mobilization of his state's NG troops when an evacuation is declared. Basically you put out the call for volunteers among your civilian bus drivers, and if you don't get enough drivers to drive all the available buses you turn to the NG for people that can drive those things and man the rest of the stearing wheels that way.

To paraphrase "LARRY THE CABLE GUY":When standing on a railroad track with a train bearing down on you, step off the tracks! Nothing any more simple than that.

The emergency planning document provides public transit for evacutation. The emergency planning document was placed on this website and many others. It has been discussed repeatedly. If you have not seen it one can only guess that you are, again, willfully ignorant of the information.
I'm gonna keep posting this until you recognize that you repeatedly bury your head in the sand.
I'm guessing there would have been no shortage of volunteers willing to drive those buses.
I have no idea what is contained in the city of NO's plan. That is why I would like the URL, that you asked if I wanted.
The mayor had that many buses so we can assume the city had approximately that many bus drivers. He could've called them all up for duty.
This is just another excuse for schoolbusgate. Right along with "no bathrooms".

but you're making excuses for why the buses sat empty, thereby relieving Nagin of any responsibility for their lack of use.
He is responsible whatever the reasons for their lack of use. And the current evidence demostrates that it was HIS failure to use them.
I agree, but didn't the gov request aid prior to the storm, as per the fed response plan?
"What if the drivers said, no, I won't do it, I'm taking care of my family?"
That's ridiculous. That's like asking what what would happen if in the midst of a crisis, a third of the police force said: "SEE YA!"
VOTING DEMOCRAT = ASSISTED SUICIDE
In lieu of designated receiving points outside of town being run by the state goverment, there are ALWAYS two excellent options:
1) The State Capitol
2) The Governer's Mansion
For added effectiveness, invite the press.
There are two kinds of people in this situation, ones who help and ones who need to get out of the way. By your questions, I would put you in the latter category.
Snopes totally misrepresented or missed the point about the so-called Clinton Death List, spinning it so that it appears that people were claiming that Clinton himself gave orders to hit people. They didn't rebut the fact that these people actually are dead.
Great diagram.
I don't know if this has been pointed out, but the city evacuation plan had designated shelters throughout the state that the people were supposed to be taken to. It was already planned.
The reports we're getting are that he mobilized 10% of the NG at the 11th hour. Too little too late, they didn't even use any NG troops to setup shelters (which is the other thing that would have been necessary to make the buses truly useful). A complete ball droppage.
Snopes is a "good" but not GREAT site for this type of fact checking. They have a very definite political spin and miss very few opportunities to insert that spin.
As long as you're aware of this and you take the information with a touch of salt, it's a good resource.
Thanks. It looks pretty comprehensive to mein parts, and sort of judgement call vague in other parts, but I'm not a disaster planning person.
