Hillary. She would replace O'connor which would be no biggy and once Stevens or Ginsburg retires, you go back to conservative justices.

Roberts is replacing O'Connor!

Just because he has now also been elevated to CJ, means nothing. It is Rehnquist's seat that is unfilled.

Now we need a good staunch Conservative to replace Rehnquist! No squishes need apply.

Actually, Since Sandy is staying on the court until her replacement is seated, and Roberts is replacing the Chief Justice, it appears she will consider him to be Rehnquist's replacement and will stay on the court to have 9 jurists until ANOTHER nominee is named to replace her.

Many good picks on that list. It won't be hard to find a good nominee.

My choice is Ann Coulter...failing that, anyone she deems perfect (and has any likelihood of having the noo-kular option triggered) for the associate justice position.

I hear ya... it's just that I feel like the MSM (and others) are setting Bush up. If he "now" picks a true Originalist to replace O'Connor, the peanut gallery will go nutz. Example: HR always has to slip in that the next nominee will be to replace O'Connor. There is something going on with Dem talking points here.

If Rehnquist had passed away before O'Connor retired, just how many FReepers would have been happy with a stealth candidate like Roberts replacing him? But now that is what we have.

With O'Connors seat open AGAIN, since we have a "conservative" in Roberts to replace Rehnquist, now Bush may feel like (I hope not) he can safely pick a moderate to replace O'Connor. We shouldn't stand for the 'Rats game, and Bush's feet still need to be held to the fire.

Make any sense?

I wish I could tell you more about him, but I know next to nothing of him.

It will be a woman. Laura Bush --- among many other influentials -- wants a woman.

Wish it would be Janice Rogers Brown, but highly unlikely. More likely Edith Jones or Edith Clement... would like to know the ages of both.

Janice Rogers Brown looks like a politically aggressive choice that would force the Democrats to either confirm or shoot themselves in the foot.
