Let's take a break from the joy of Bush bashing to reveal the dirty little secret of New Orleans: Its local government deserves an F for its planning and response to Katrina. And one other thing: The New Orleans police force would be a joke if it weren't a disgrace.

Fellow Freepers:

At the suggestion of writer Michelle Malkin last Friday, I have cobbled together a blogsite called Texas Clearinghouse for Katrina Aid to serve as a clearinghouse for refugee efforts in Texas.

Texas is getting more refugees than any other state -- that's fine, we'll take them all -- but we need help providing them with food, clothing, and shelter.

If you are a refugee, you can information that will help you find relief. If you want to donate or volunteer, you can find someone who needs you.

Right now the site mostly covers Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas but I will add various churches, schools, and other charities in Lubbock and Austin tonight. My wife was down at Reunion Arena in Dallas yesterday handing out care packages and spiritually ministering to the refugees as a representative of her employer. She says that the situation is tragic and that there's a lot of work to be done. There are so many children who don't know where their parents are or even if their parents are still alive.

There are a lot of churches and other organizations in Texas that need help in dealing with the problem and I would appreciate it if you would get the word out.

Many thanks,

Michael McCullough

Mayor Bling Bling also said in his TV tirade (paraphrase) " They expect us to get these people out of here on school buses, what we need is every Greyhound in this country to come down here and help us."

I know that he said this in his rant. He expected Greyhound Buses to come in and extract the people in the Superdome. School buses were not an adequate rescue vehicle.

All you had to do, asshole, was to get people to higher ground. All you had to do was save their lives.

I wonder if by castgating the entire force we are being fair.

Two days ago I saw a police officer really angry, almost crying talking about those who didn't show up, turned in their badges and just quit, and others that worked against the force. He looked so tired and talked about those who had been trying so hard but were so few in number that they could do little,

Does anyone know if the "Deputy Chief" is the same as the Chief of Police. The Deputy is on now and he seems to know what he is doing.

I'm not castigating the PD. In fact, I'm wondering why some of them didn't have the resources to do their job when just about every other big-city department around the country has been beefed-up after 9/11 for Homeland Security. While there are always some bad apples, I feel sorry for the good ones that stayed with no support from their city. Something's not right in the Big Easy with all those federal dollars that obviously didn't go for city preparidness.
