Governor Blanco just said on Fox News Channel that Mayor Nagin does not have the authority to order evacuation of New Orleans, that the authority rests with her....and she doesn't have evidence that it is unsafe!

In the last week, she has said some of the stupidest things I've ever heard from an elected official's mouth.

Obviously, she can't risk pictures of "Gaza-like" forced evacuations hitting the vids.
Why is that her political career seems to always come before public safety? Is this a pattern? Hmmmm.......

Nobody should be forced to leave. What about someone who has a prepared ahead of time for the disaster? Maybe they have a water bed (or barrels) full of water and a years supply of canned food. Not to mention all the other various sundry items that a preparedness minded person would likely have, like medicines, survival water filters, guns & ammo, etc.
Not everyone these days is a lost little lamb in an emergency. Of course we are talking about New Orleans here, but still. Everybody may not be complete boneheads.
I know if I lived there and the foundation of my house was dry, I wouldn't be leaving. To heck with that.
I'm seeing what appears to be a bunch of nanny state liberals on these threads.

Is this woman perhaps the most inept governor in all of the 50 states? Ever? They'd be better off with Grey-out Davis.

Her advisers probably include Bill & Hill, don'tchano. If Bush was working with the two nitwits, Nagin and the Governor, no wonder he took control.

I read an article the other day that said. Feds were in charge or something to that effect? Is that in Mississippi?

It doesn't look like there are enough villages in that part of the country for all those idiots.

WEDNESDAY, Sept. 7 (HealthDay News) -- The first federal testing of floodwaters in New Orleans has revealed dangerously high levels of sewage, with 10 times the safe levels of E. coli and other potentially harmful bacteria, federal officials announced Wednesday.

This woman is as dangerous as she is stupid -- she must have led a privileged existene where all those around her did her thinking for her -- she's nothing more than a figure head for somebody. She appears to be a wooden head puppet.

Obviously, she can't risk pictures of "Gaza-like" forced evacuations hitting the vids. You got it. As long as it was National Guard troops dragging people out of their homes, thery were happy with it. They would have gotten all kinds of mileage out of pictures of white Guardsmen dragging blacks hog-tied out of their homes - "Bush is taking their homes away from them! What's next, the second Trail of Tears?"
But since the military told them to go cram it, it would have to be New Orleans cops and/or Louisiana State Police. Couldn't have that.
