Public Skeptical New Orleans Will Recover Criticism, but little outrage, for Bush's and federal agencies' response to hurricane

by David W. Moore

GALLUP NEWS SERVICE

...

Despite widespread criticism of the response by Bush and, separately, the federal government, to the problems caused by the hurricane, the public seems on balance only mildly critical. Forty-two percent say Bush did a "bad" (18%) or "terrible" (24%) job, but 35% rate his response as either "great" (10%) or "good" (25%).

...

When asked to identify who was most responsible for the problems in New Orleans after the hurricane, 38% of Americans said no one was really to blame, while 13% cited Bush, 18% the federal agencies, and 25% state and local officials.

...

Few Americans feel that any top official in the agencies responsible for handling emergencies should be dismissed from office -- just 29% say someone should be fired, while 63% disagree.

Do you think that if the majority of the people finally wake up and see what you are saying is true, that things wil change? I so agree with you, and I think that there are so many that have had their heads in the sand, maybe this is just the wake up call that was needed.

This isn't Bush's problem anyway and he shouldn't be bothered with it.

This is the best news I've seen in days regarding the political fallout. I guess Reagan was right. You really can trust the American people to do the right thing, or in this case, to believe the right thing. The MSM has been so shameless in it's spin of this story that I have actually stopped watching the coverage because I get angry at every talking head I see. This just proves that the PEOPLE get it, while the MSM, as usual, doesn't. Thank God!

"Isn't the total black population of the U.S.A. about 13 percent?"

More or less. But if only 13% blame Bush, and that includes all of those white Park Avenue liberals, a rather small percentage of blacks blame Bush for the aftermath of Katrina.

LMAO...

Even running a 24/7/365 propaganda machine the likes of which the world has never seen, the leftists still can't make false charges stick.

LOL, some decades it's just doesn't pay to be a commie pinko.

After Katrina hit the majority of Americans now understand the huge damage that 40 years of welfare state has done to a segment of the population. I hear so many people expressing their disgust with what they have seen and blaming the welfare state for most of the horror they have seen heard and read about. People are enraged about this, and all what you need to do is just to make a hint opinion about the horrible welfare state we have seen manifesting in New Orleans and many around you, who were afraid to speak about this subject before, jump into the conversation and express their disgust and anger about the welfare decease and how it has literarily destroyed a whole segment of the society.

Without the NY Times doing anything but full time Bush Hate speech for the last week. Here are the RAW number of a poll that took anyone with a heartbeat over 18 and asked them these questions. A solid MAJORITY are either favorable or favorably inclined towards Bush. Now factor out the 45% that do not vote and the favorable numbers get even better for the Pres. And these are after the whole scale sucker punch the Dinosaurs threw by going right into making this political while the rest of us were thinking this was a time to be Bipartisan. Now that the Right has started putting the Facts out, these number will, like they always do, only go AGAINST the Hysteric Left. The Left is good as long as people are FEELING, once they start THINKING, rather then reacting to picture on TV, they always move to the Right. Two weeks from now when gas is back down to around $2.40 a gallon, this number will be even better for the Pres.
George W. Bush----Great Good Neither GnorB Bad Terrible NoOp

56% Favorable------10 25 21

18---24 Federal govt agencies responsible for handling

53% Favorable------8 27 20
20 22

State and local officials in Louisiana

60% Favorable-------7 30 23
20 15----(Think of the Kneejerk sympathy factor here. Locals are the victims after all).

So Bush Haters can read it and weep. They threw their best sucker punch, completely mis reported or IGNORED the facts and STILL could NOT get a majority to agree with their Hate Bush Agenda. Also, here are today's Oil Prices. Almost a $6.00 drop from last week. What do you think is going to happen to Bush's numbers when Gas prices take their normal seasonal pluge in Sept and go back to under $2.50 a gallon?

PETROLEUM ($/bbl) PRICE* CHANGE % CHANGE TIME

Nymex Crude
64.75 -1.21 -1.83 13:53

IPE
62.80 -1.87 -2.89 14:14

Dated
62.27 -1.85 -2.88 14:23

WTI Cushing
64.40 -1.56 -2.37 14:02

Don't worry people, the truth always wins in the ends.

The city and state are polling at higher rates than the Fed.

In the end everyone will lose.

So true. I have asked my friends just how can/could we turn back time, to where people were responsible for themselves. This just may be the way that it happens. If enough people become enraged and voice their dissapproval with the lawmakers, maybe things can get changed. We can hope anyway.

They think Fritzerald is the only savior they have left. He's their only hope, because Bush is "getting away with murder in NO."
Man, are they going to be "deeply saddened."

I have never been more let down by this administration AWest Since Aug 18, 2005

You can wander back to Democrat Underground or Moveon.org and report you have successfully infiltrated Free Republic and spread DNC propaganda talking points as ordered.

How come you IGNORE the fact that Govt Blanco did NOT ask for any Federal Assistance until Wed Aug 31st according to HER, or Until Thur Sept 1st according to FEMA. ALL the Declaration of Emergency does is release Federal Disaster AID money to the State. It does NOT, as you Hysteric Lefts try to lie about it all over the web these days, take over the Local Govt's authority responsiblities. The Govt of the STATE is still in charge of HOW the resources, particularly the NATIONAL GUARD, are used. FEMA Advises, the do not DIRECT.

BTW, Please explain to me why, according to the Sun Sept 4 WASHINTON POST (A pillar of DNC propaganda) reported that the President had ASKED to take over control, did Gov Blanco of Louisiana say, and is still saying, NO?

Why TODAY, if the 3rd Responder Feds are to blame and not the 1st Responders (City of NO) and 2ND Responders (State of Louisiana) is the MAYOR of New Orleans issuing order for evacuees to be removed by force if necessary?

How is "This Administration" to blame for what the Gov and the Mayor are IN CHARGE OF?

hired the incompetent Michael Brown. There was a very slow response in Mississippi and Alabama, much as some try to deny it.

Please explain how that "incompetent" did such splendid work after all 4 of last years hurricanes hit Fla? How did "that incompetent" is doing such wonderful work EVERYWHERE BUT NO in this crises? How come the Gov of Mississippi, where the Hurricane HIT is boundless in his PRAISE of "that incompetent"? So why are so many "conservative" so desperate to excuse the incompetence of the 1st Responders (City of NO) and the 2nd Responders (State of Louisianan) to hyperventilate about the 3rd Responding FEDS? Why have the Feds pumped billions into the City and State Govts to PREPARE them to respond to disaster just like this since 9-11 if the FEDS are to blame when the LOCALS blow it? Why don't we just put the Feds in charge of EVERYTHING? Oh, that's right because the LAW puts control over the States in the STATE GOVT hand UNLESS they surrender control to the Feds. According to the Sun Sept 4th, Washington Post, Gov Blanco refused, and is STILL refusing, to turn control over to the FEDS. So how is Brown responsible for what Gov Blanco and Mayor Nagel are IN CHARGE OF?
