Today, a different kind of line was crossed. The Times has messed with Texas. You dont tug on Supermans cape, you dont spit in the wind, and most of all you dont mess with Texas if you have even a shred of common sense.
KTRK-TV, the ABC affiliate in Houston has caught (hat tip: Austin Bay) the New York Times Company slurring Houstons rescue efforts in a sneaky yet stupid maneuver. How do like this for the first sentence in a story about Houstons sheltering efforts on behalf of the evacuees, by Houston-based NYT reporter Simon Romero?:
No one would accuse this city of being timid in the scramble to profit from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina."
Excuse me? The City of Houston has thrown open its heart, pocketbook, homes, churches, schools, and all public facilities to its neighbors in need. The Astrodome was prudently stocked with disaster supplies because nearby Galveston might need them in the event of a big hurricane. Without a thought, Houston stepped up and became evacuation central. It will cost Houston taxpayers a lot of money, but nobody is giving a thought.
And you paint this city as a crass profiteer on its neighbors misery. That is beyond despicable. It is crazy.

And is Oprah going to ask Houston to Apologize too?
What good does it do any of the Katrina Survivors to pass blame on the efforts of others to assist them out of their misery?
The NYT is scum.
Leftists are a disgrace.
How dare the new york times. They have no idea what Houstonians have done. My church alone gave $1M. Joel Osteen's Lakewood gave $5M. The Kroger stores are nearly out of toothbrushes. The doctors from Baylor and Texas Medical Center are working overtime to provide medical care to thousands. Shut up NY times.
I am. Unfortunately, I have been guilty of it myself and intend to stop. But this particular item about Houston is bizarre - how exactly are they profiting from this? Did Houston really need 30,000 people without jobs, homes or money to suddenly move to their city?
And, of course, the crime rate around the Astrodome has already spiked.
The New York Times doesn't know it's _____from a _________.
And How did Jesse Jackson help any of the "refugees" from Katrina, besides making them feel bad about being called "refugees"????? I AM TIRED OF THE GUILT TRIP BY THE LIBERAL MEDIA, AND BY THE RACE BAITERS, and by DEMOCRATS!
It thinks that shrillness is convincing.
They thought that if they scrwamed at the top of their lungs about Karl Rove's (true) statements about leftist antipatriotism they would get him fired.
They thought if they ceasely promoted Cindy Sheehan's high-decibel ranting they would get a majority in the US in favor of ignominious withdrawal.
They thought if they howled about John Roberts' "fascist" opinions, they would get his nomination shot down.
Now they think crowing about the Bush administration's (nonexistent) failures during the flood will get them a jump on the '06 midterms.
What was the definition of insanity again? Doing the same thing repeatedly while expected a different result?
No--I am tired of blaming the wrong ones and making scapegoats while the clueless mayor of NO and the inept gov. of LA go untouched by the MSM.
vaudine
The Texas Demonrat party certainly did.
That's not the only place. It's not getting alot of press though.
GIT A ROPE!
The Democratic Party certainly did - instant constituents, for as long as they can keep them poor.
Where is the talk in the NYT about Jesse Jackson, Sharpton, Oprah, Sean Penn profiteering?
See, Houston is in "flyover"country. They're a bunch of hicks, rednecks, and a miserable sort of people who drive trucks, own guns, and exercise justice with the DP. Hell, they probably can't read english, let alone a copy of the NYT. Right? /sarc
What the New York Times once was, is gone.
