(CNN) -- A majority of Americans believe the city of New Orleans will never completely recover from the effects of Hurricane Katrina and the resulting flooding, according to results of a CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll released Tuesday.
Fifty-six percent of 609 adults polled by telephone September 5-6 said they believe the hurricane devastated the city beyond repair. And 93 percent of poll respondents said they believe Katrina is the worst natural disaster to strike the United States in their lifetime.
But a majority of respondents -- 63 percent -- said they believe the city should rebuild. And 66 percent said they believe all New Orleans residents should evacuate the city.
Opinions varied widely, however, on the response of federal, state and local officials regarding Katrina. Forty-two percent of respondents characterized President Bush's response to the disaster as "bad" or "terrible," while 35 percent said it was "good" or "great."
Federal government agencies' response was described as "bad" or "terrible" by 42 percent, and "good" or "great" by 35 percent. State and local officials' response was described as "bad" or "terrible" by 35 percent and "good" or "great" by 37 percent.
Respondents also disagreed widely on who is to blame for the problems in the city following the hurricane -- 13 percent said Bush, 18 percent said federal agencies, 25 percent blamed state or local officials and 38 percent said no one is to blame. And 63 percent said they do not believe anyone at federal agencies responsible for handling emergencies should be fired as a result.

The media will cherry pick their favorite parts of this poll and ignore the parts that don't conform to their agenda.

I wish they would flesh these polls out more (like actually ask people what they're thinking). I hate polls, I don't always trust that they mean anything (esp on complex issues). But hopefully you're right.
susie
Don't forget to watch Rehnquist funeral at 2PM.
Tell that to Dan Rather, who to this day cannot accept the truth about the memo's.
This must have been bitterly disappointing to CNN.
37 people with NO resources.
He's so strapped he couldn't pay his own rent.
Trouble is, it's a beautiful house that belongs to his mother who is a contractor in Iraq.
He gave them all his mother's home. She has no idea and from the look of things that house will not be in the best condition if and when these squatters leave.
They didn't want to go to the Astrodome so they're sleeping sitting up in chairs, jammed into a house....but it has a pool!
On the very same broadcast where the numbers you quote were given, CNN Said its polls showed that 42 percent of those polled said Bush was doing a poor job of handling the hurricane crisis. They said only 35 percent said he was doing an adequate job. The remainder, some 22 percent were neutral on the job Bush is doing.
The CNN polls said 42 percent say he is doing a bad job but 81 percent don't blame him for doing a bad job. .. and you call that the truth...
Bush's fault.
He caused the flu vaccine shortage too, remember that.
thank yo OldFriend. Of course I'll be watching....as will the Democrats, who must be in a snit because the President is speaking, and John Roberts is a pall bearer.
To Democrats, everything is a photo op...especially funerals.
Sports reporters are idiots. Their peers are the crony acquaitances they "know" at MSM outlets. They look to these losers for guidance and opinions (they have none other than who is better- the Eagles or the Patriots type debates) and emulate them.
Sports reporters are just another form of sheeple.
How many times has Dan Rather been on 60 minutes since he "Resigned as anchor on the evening news". What stories is Dan covering these days?
Dan is not getting any more air time than I am these days.
He said we have to delay the confirmation hearings for Roberts to give the nation time to mourn this brilliant man.
UNBELIEVABLE HYPOCRACY
Create a perception, poll for effect, then report on it.
We recognize Schumer's supreme hypocrisy for what it is. But look on the bright side. Imagine how aggravated the far left fringed folk must get when one of their own have to heap praise on a noted, much hated, conservative. I hope funeral cameras zoom in on the Clintons, Schumer, Kennedy, all the left's icons, being soooooooooo respectful of Judge Rehnquist.
Notice how many of the usual Democrat vermin are not calling for any kind of investigation. They know the outcome, and the polls are proving it. If, and when the real truth is known, the Democrat Party and its idiots in Louisiana are not going to look good. Pubbie, go foward with massive investigations, just as the ultra left-wing of the traitor/treason Democrat Party is calling for.
Huh? Peter Gammons blames Bush for Cleveland's economy?? What was the context of his comment? I have trouble envisioning Gammons holding forth on anything other than baseball.
AMAZING what BIASED reporting can accomplish.
