The near total evacuation of the major American port city of New Orleans, Louisiana was accomplished between Tuesday afternoon, August 30 and Friday afternoon, September 2, 2005. This evacuation occurred while other search, rescue, relief and evacuation operations were simultaneously being conducted throughout the Gulf Coast between approximately Lafayette, Louisiana, on the west and the Florida panhandle on the east - an area of about 90,000 sq. miles, or the size of the entire nation of Great Britain.
I'd say this amazing achievement is the opposite of slow. I'd say that it's a stunning accomplishment and one that demonstrates superb organization, remarkable logistics flow, and the greatness of the American spirit.
From the following photographic timeline, it should be clear to all reasonable people that the failure of government response occurred before the hurricane hit, and it occurred solely at the local and state level.

Sorry. It wasn't a solder, but a guy from the Louisiana State Police carrying a five-day-old baby.

Hi, CA. I was just about ready to go off line. It's nearly 10:20pm here in L.A., and the dogs have not yet been fed. Glad you caught me, though. We just have to work as hard as we can to get the truth out. I had no choice but to post this late, after I got home from work. Hopefully the morning and day folks will see it tomorrow.

Rush was right - "the FReepers are doing a great job with Katrina". FReepers are doing a great job for America. And the work continues.

Mad Tom, you don't know it, but by pinging JimRob you reminded me to ping someone else. Thanks.
Bob J, pinging you to this thread FYI. Perhaps you can use the info to get the word out on via radio. The federal response was heroic, not slow.

You are both so very welcome. Please just do what you can to spread the truth.
Now I really have to go offline and feed my dogs, or they'll never "speak" to me again, LOL!

Don't forget. Here are the points:
Facts about Katrina
1-The orders were to evacuate. They didn't.
2-Local and State governments by design are supposed to be responsible for the initial response. They Didn't
3-The Federal Government is there to assist Local and State Governments.
4-The feds had to handle the bulk of the problem-then get blamed.
It is evil to turn this natural disaster into a bush hating exercise.
SHAME ON YOU.

Dang. Don't send me to places that make me cry. I'm a military brat, a military widow, and a military mom. I KNOW what this country is about.
I taught my children to fight for what they believe in, and the military taught them how to do it right. I come from 17 generations of "fighters" and the desire to win has been passed on to my grandchildren.
I don't need to be reminded of what this country means...but thanks, anyway! ;o]

Folks seem to think the Federal Gov't is responsible for all...but the Mayor of NO is is the nasty guy who high-tailed it out of NO when the "water" got deep. He could have evacuated the people who were on welfare with school and city buses. He chose not to.
The Governor failed in her duty to impose mandatory evacuation for NO and all the Gulf Coast cities in LA. She had time. She didn't do it. She, and Mayor Nagin, will, ultimately, be held accountable. And I really don't want to be there when they are... < end of rant>

I know .. I'm in San Diego.
And .. you're right .. we have to keep putting the truth out there. A bunch of people have come out in support of the President - unlikely people - and that is beginning to turn the tide. I've seen other articles that are now starting to blame the state and local govts who did nothing to help their people.

Great job.
The media started to lose me when they started to ADD days to people waiting.
Has anybody noticed MSNBC's little counter on their screen? What is that for?
