President Bush had a very busy day today, meeting with Secretary of Education, Margaret Spellings and First Lady Laura Bush, to discuss the educational needs of children displaced by Hurricane Katrina and how states might be able to absorb the cost of the large numbers of new students. He also met with the Cabinet to discuss the recovery efforts following the hurricane, and reuniting family members with each other, healthcare provision and finances.
At noon, the President met with representatives from national voluntary organizations to discuss how best to help the Americans who are evacuees from the hurricane. He pledged a full investigation into the response to the hurricane.
The President and First Lady also paid their respects to the late Chief Justice of the United States, William Rehnquist, spending a few moments bowing their heads at his casket.
Continue to pray for the President and the people in the ravaged Gulf Coast region, and enjoy this island of refuge from the blind attacks against our GOOD President on the Daily Dose!
Sometimes the better place to go is a church in an emergency like that. We attend a Church of Christ and they always budget a benevolence fund that has monies for disaster situations. Also churches have clothing closets and food closets that they can give to families in times of need like this. I know several families that were evacuated to our area came by to receive such items.
I'm sorry for your sister's friend. I know she has been through a horrible ordeal. I hope things will be brighter for her soon.
I'm disappointed W mentioned the Red Cross and United Way.
One way you can tell that we don't live in a Banana Republic is that the title of the thread isn't "A Day in the Bush with the President for Life." Of course, were Clinton still President ... I think I won't go there :-)
LOL! You are talented. :) That is so funny and yet so very true.
That's because there's no waste. The money goes to those who need it.........not to the organization.
Red Cross probs:

(don't want to bring thread down, either, so leaving it at a link.) :)
I agree. Scandles galore over the years with the Red Cross and United Way.
It would have been a strange omission, IMO.
THAT..........is hilarious!
Good evening
Last picture in post 7 - Laura looks like she is going to cry.
Just got an e-mail from the Salvation Army thanking us for our donation ;-)
(Of course, anything the debauched one does is not in keeping with a PG rating........)
Remember what the Red Cross actions (inactions) were after 9/11?
I'm leaving very shortly, but will be back later in the evening.....
What has happened to all those millions of dollars that have been donated to the RC?
The charities (Red Cross and United Way) that seem to have the best inside connections with government and get the "official" mentions are not the most affective. The most affective charity sticks to its knitting, gets more good work done, and gets less insider Washington notice.
Inevitable, I suspect.
That's exactly my point! The contrast between the two...um, individuals...should be perfectly clear.
Exceedingly clear, sourcery. Exceedingly!
Thanks for the great post tonight Ohio! The President and First Lady certainly need our prayers, now more than ever.
I often think of the story of Job...one tragedy after another...as his faith was tested.
And a big hi everybody as well! I'm off again to work on the Mt. Everest of Laundry that has sprung up in my basement. I think it's breeding down there!
