Bob Denver, whose portrayal of goofy first mate Gilligan on the 1960s television show "Gilligan's Island," made him an iconic figure to generations of TV viewers, has died, his agent confirmed Tuesday. He was 70.
Denver, who underwent quadruple heart bypass surgery earlier this year, died at Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital in North Carolina, according to agent Mike Eisenstadt. Denver's death was first reported by "Entertainment Tonight."

Yep, by Max Shulman who also wrote Rally Round the Flag and The Tender Trap. He was in the same vein as Jean Shepard.

And Dobie Gillis?
No, I'm not that old. And we'll back you on that, even if they question us separately.
Me: certainly not old enough to have thought Tuesday Weld was hot. Somebody must have told me (Yes that's the explanation)

I can hear Max Baucus in his best Thurston Howell III voice welcoming Denver to Heaven: "Oh, Gilligan my boy!"
