Bob Denver, whose portrayal of goofy first mate Gilligan on the 1960s television show "Gilligan's Island," made him an iconic figure to generations of TV viewers, has died, his agent confirmed Tuesday. He was 70.

Denver, who underwent quadruple heart bypass surgery earlier this year, died at Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital in North Carolina, according to agent Mike Eisenstadt. Denver's death was first reported by "Entertainment Tonight."

Thanks for posting the lyrics in #30--they bring back happy memories, that's for sure.

R.I.P., Bob Denver.

Anybody remember Maynard G. Krebbs?

Boom. Boom. Kerboom.

I wonder what happened to his ball of aluminum foil?

In an anthology of stories about the Gilligan's Island characters that came out a few years ago, it was claimed that Gilligan was Maynard. RIP, Mighty Sailor Man.

I wondered what happened to his ball of aluminum foil?

It has been passed down through the decades and is now shared between the Mayor of New Orleans and various leaders of the Democratic Party.

You could also sing Amazing Grace to the tune of Gilligan's Isle...though I don't want to upset any fellow Baptists here!

Does ANYBODY still vote Ginger anymore?

I was always a MaryAnn guy, but now I vote Ginger simply because nobody else does. I figure, why fight the odds? If I'm the only one in line, the chance of it happening is somewhat less than absolutely-never.

Realistically, sigh, it's still absolutely-never.

In 1978, they did a made-for-TV movie of their rescue, and it was IIRC the highest-rated made-for-TV movie of the year. I was 23, and I watched every second of it. All of the cast except Ginger were in it. I nearly **cried** when the old Coast Guard helicopter actually spotted them as they floated in the current. Each one got to say "Rescued!"

I was certain that even then, Gilligan would find a way to F-up the rescue.

The scene of them being towed into the Harbor in Honolulu was filmed while thousands watched on shore, along with hundreds of small boats and fireboats too.

It was a major deal, TV-wise, believe it or not!

And Ginger, absolutely, no question. I'da done Lovey before I'da done MaryAnn (don't wanna hear no BS about how MaryAnn's repressed needs woulda come to the surface. I wouldn't have wanted any games or any major courting...Gimme Ginger and a glass of that stuff Howell and Lovey drank on the island, and life wouldn't have been so darn bad--except for knowing Gilligan would find a way to get you rescued AFTER you hooked up with Ginger!)

Golly, she is a looker, isn't she?

I hate when lipstick lesbians like Zelda go and taunt us heteros with their true feminine charms. It ain't right!

I always loved the Andy Griffith episode where Barney f'ed up and Andy had to figure out a way to circumvent the storm of criticism from locals (and feds in Mt. Pilot), and make Barney out to be a hero.

Reminds me of an old joke, If Tuesday weld had married actor Fred March, they had a boy and named him Tuesday as well, he'd be Tuesday March the Second!

I remember the book

I was just learning to read, but I do remember the show.

Interesting, I never knew it was a book.
