Bob Denver, whose portrayal of goofy first mate Gilligan on the 1960s television show "Gilligan's Island," made him an iconic figure to generations of TV viewers, has died, his agent confirmed Tuesday. He was 70.

Denver, who underwent quadruple heart bypass surgery earlier this year, died at Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital in North Carolina, according to agent Mike Eisenstadt. Denver's death was first reported by "Entertainment Tonight."

Sort of the running gag...just like on Southpark. Oh, My God, they killed Kenny.

Yeah...Hey wait a minute....

What a great Idea......Revenge of the people of Gilligan's Island.

Every week Gilligan destroys any hope of getting off the island and the rest of the group gets together and kills Gilligan in amusing ways.

Man.....we could make millions writing story lines. Kenny would have nothing on us.

And with computer graphics the way they are, we could make it look so convincing that people would be calling 911 to report a murder from TV.

And we could make it interactive.....taking phone calls from the audiance on what would be the best way to kill Gilligan.

SOrt of like a cross between American Idol, Gilligans Island and South Park.

We have a winner here!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember Maynard-the first beatnik on TV. This was on the Dobie Gillis show. Remember Dobie's father "I was in the big one-WWII!" Warren Beaty was in this show-he was the rich arrogant boyfriend of Thalia (Tuesday Weld).

While Tuesday Weld is lovely...

Ginger was played by Tina Louise...

Sorry for the letdown... something just didn't seem right, so I looked it up...

Anybody remember Maynard G. Krebbs? >> Boy, I sure do. "WORK??!"
"Work" came to mind for me too!

I'm sure my son wonders why I smile at him and say 'work' like that when he's a little slow at his chores. : )

Miss ya, Little Buddy.

Ahh... Tuesday Weld.

Immortalized (I'm sure not the first time) in Donald Fagan's New Frontier from the "Nightfly."

"... I also remember the plain-looking girl who was always trying to get Dobie to notice her."

I believe you are refering to Zelda Gilroy, played by Sheila James Kuehl who is a "... Democrat[ic] Assemblywoman in California and a well-known champion of gay rights" according to the Dobie Gillis Show home page. Of course, Zelda faced tough competition from Tuesday Weld (Thalia), among others, for Dobie's attention!

If you play the guitar music to Stairway to Heaven, but sing the lyrics to Gilligan's Island, it works perfectly.

That's pretty common given a common meter between the songs. You can also sing "Amazing Grace" to the tune of "Gilligan's Island" or vice-versa. Or substitute "America, the Beautiful", "Yesterday", etc.

I could never figure out how a group of people on a

3 HOUR TOUR....A 3 HOUR TOUR...."

Had so much stuff packed like all the clothes and all the other stuff they had.

It would have been a much better and much longer lasting show if the Clothing started to fall apart and Ginger & Mary Ann had to walk around with palm leaves instead of designer gowns and shorts.

We then could have the Howells die of from old age and the skipper would have a heart attack while looking at Ginger and Mary Ann.

The professor would eventually die off and all that would be left is Gilligan, Mary Ann & Ginger.

Then the age old question would be answered.

Ginger or Mary Ann.

BTW....what was the professor's name? Not his real name but his name on the Island.

On a trip to Hawaii this spring, we got to see the lagoon from Gilligan's Island, as well as the island used for shots from the show.

Princeton, WVa isn't going to be the same without Bob.

So long, Maynard/Gilligan!

I'm pretty sure first mate Gilligan would have been fragged by one of the others fairly early on.

Snap out of that fantasy pronto... Rosie O'Donnell played Betty in the Flintstones movie. :-]

Ugh. I'm still pissed off about that choice of "actor".

Thankfully, Halle Barry was also in that movie.

Now sing it to the tune of "Stairway to Heaven". Seems more appropriate, somehow.

Stairway to Gilligan's Island
