I would appreciate it if we did not drag previous arguments onto new threads. Not only is it against protocol, I believe it is this argument which finally and sadly shut down our Katrina live threads which most of us enjoyed so much.
Thank you.

Geraldo just said he doesn't blame the President that he "loves" this President.... now THAT is a huge switch from 2000.... just said he's become a liberal Republican!
Hey, folks, if we can move him from a liberal democrat to a liberal Republican -- we can move anyone!

I guess I don't understand what the controversy was. Did I have something to do with this? The post of mine quoted was in answer to someone else who wondered if the people in New Orleans deserved to be saved if they had chosen to stay. Has that become controversial?

I do not want to see this thread shut down, too... please! I don't know what started this, but would appreciate seeing it ended.
To: Types_with_Fist
There's no controversy. Don't worry about it.

Neither do I -- so I'm sure everybody is confused.
I guess it's just best to ignore it.

Well, when I took a few days off last Friday to enjoy the holiday weekend I was chagrined with the intelligence of many FReepers, and when I came back today I had to screw a few heads on straight at my office.
This is an emotional time for the entire country, but there is no way I'm letting that stand in the way of good judgment. The MSM and cowardly, inept democrats are using this tragedy to effectively play on the emotions of people by blaming Republicans for the misery. They've caused some of the smartest people I know to go off kilter, and if they can do that, surely those of lesser intelligence are being manipulated as well.
This is no time for mistakes, whether they be mistakes of fact, judgment or recollection.
As a group FReepers have held up well, even earning the admiration of Rush Limbaugh. We can all find strength in our collective intellect and perseverance.
God Bless us all, everyone.

Geraldo just told Sean that they got Florita and her dog situated with a 4-H group in Atlanta and an old friend of her's has come forward and is going to take in Florita and her dog. Geraldo is going down there on Thursday to get her moved and settled in... sounds like he took her under his wing and wants to make certain she is okay....
Now I LIKE that.
To: Types_with_Fist
No, Types, you did not. Just the course of freeflow of converation. I'm sorry to bother you. Truly. Now I really have to get going. Sorry again.

Oh, good. We're in a small town and have 50 people coming here; I know they'll be made to feel welcome in our town.
Which reminds me of Barbara Bush's comments yesterday. Although perhaps a poor choice of words that people will be better off, a lot of them will be better of. Those that didn't lose family members, that is.
They will be away from the rampant drugs, gangs, prostitution and violence that was prevalent in their inner city neighborhoods. And from my neighbors who lived in NO most of their adult lives, it sounded rather like a hard place. People in the south are kind and sweet outside the cities and that will be a welcome relief and we've already heard from many evacuees they have no intention of going back.

Wasn't Hitley part of the Congress that put FEMA in the Homeland Security Department to begin with???
To: Arizona Carolyn
I asked before and no one can answer. What did they do with homeland security money? All I've found ( admittedly not as extensively sourced as I like ) seems to indicate they spent the money on everything but levees & disaster planning.
When the Federal funds were not met by matching funds ( deliberate? ) they could be "diverted" to other uses:
Hurricane Katrina: Dont Blame Bush for Local Corruption and Democrat Incompetence --more--
There is a thread running right now that states that most of the federal moneys allocated for levee security were redirected by the corrupt mayor and city council and used to build CASINOS!
"The more I see, and the more I read, I am beginning to believe that BLANCO should be held CRIMINALLY responsible."
The evident incompetence of this woman is one reason the Democrats are loudly blaming Bush.
Bingo. The fools pi$$ed away their levee money buying everything BUT levees.
Are you reading Ellesu's posts about the millions of dollars FEMA sent LA, that can't quite be accounted for. This is why the Clintons and their operatives are out there. They're trying to cover up what amounts to grand theft -- New Orleans has spent 673 million over the last 10 years on: New basketball arena, New Vintage Trolley Care system and just recently appropriated 315 million for the convention center expansion. Seems they had the money, but chose to spend it on pork projects rather than the poor and helpless citizens of New Orleans. Google search New Orleans basketball arena and trolley rail system.
Just what did the billions of dollars in Federal Homeland Security money give to the State of Louisiana and the City of New Orleans since 9-11 to manage this sort of disaster for the 72-96 hours FEMA directive tell them it will take for Federal Assistance to reach a disaster zone BUY the Federal Taxpayer's?
Indictmentsalso here:
Dept of Justice
Three state officials were indicted Monday on federal charges of covering up a misuse of federal funds intended to repair and prevent flood damage
Even with full funding in recent years, none of the flood-control projects would have been completed in time to prevent the swamping of the city, as Democrats yesterday acknowledged.
Source:
People have been talking for years about what would happen should a hurricane this size hit that city, and I'd be willing to bet you there were lots of federal dollars passed from hand to hand over the years to prepare for this.
I will be astounded if some of those reporters don't ask the obvious questions: Where did the money go, why weren't officials prepared? It's not like it was a secret this could happen someday.
Q.3. Why only Category 3 protection?
A.3. That is what we were authorized to do. [Answer by the Corps of Engineers]
There are already the accusations that federal money was diverted away from improving NO's levee system for other purposes, likely the war.Yes, Sidney Blumenthal already planted that political urban press using the foreign press to launder out the Clinton fingerprints. The way to shoot it down is to explain that the fed money was there but because LA refused to put up any of the state matching funds that were required by law before the fed money could be spent. Since LA made it clear for several years that they weren't going to provide those matches and expected the feds to pay 100%, the money was diverted to other needs, of which there were many.

I though so, Txsleuth. That's why I think it's a flip flop on her part. We'll have to investigate this further for now.
I'd better go pay attention to Mr. Peach and get ready for going out tonight. later....
