Where to even begin in being one more idiot talking about Hurricane Katrina? I hate the subject. It should be a news item and a humanitarian cause --a huge recovery and reconstruction effort joined in by all. It should not a political issue fit for commentary.
But the Hurricane tore at more than just the weaknesses in New Orleans inadequate levees. The shortcomings of the levee system were known to all who ever lived on the Gulf Coast, and in the end, all the levees really did was encourage expanded development in a huge geologic bowl sitting between a large lake, North Americas mightiest river, and the immense green waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The whole booby-trap was simply yet another triumph of government subsidized and directed development. And its failure was long anticipated.
What was not anticipated was the way the Hurricane tore at our human divisions.
First out of the gate were the Holy Men of the Cult of Global Warming, who couldnt wait for the first dead to wash up before they declared the Hurricane irrefutable proof of Global Warming and a direct responsibility of George W. Bush.
Next up were the racial ambulance chasers, always looking for another grievous . . .

Nagin- Do I seem paranoid? Do I? C'mon man do I?
LOL!
For example, in one article, the "reporter" states that upon entering the Convention Center, a person is told to "avoid that blood, it's contaminated". How would they know it was contaminated the second they came in? And why would the blood be fresh this many days after evacuations? In the story of the little girl shoved in the freezer with her throat slit... there's no electricity, folks. The freezer wouldn't be freezing anything. The body would be just as decomposed as those outside the freezer.
Some of these may turn out to be true, or at least partially true. But so, so many of them smack of rumor and budding urban legend, I'll be surprised if "this one time, at band camp" isn't soon replaced with "this one time, after a hurricane..."
Reporters embellish true stories and rumors too.
Even multiple sources don't make a story true, as the MSM has an annoying habit of quoting one another, and using another MSM source as reliable fonts of information. Therefore, one source makes up a story, or repeats some urban legend, then a more "reputable" source uses the questionable source, then another, even more "reputable" source quotes the second, and before long some garbage reported by a college puke with an overactive imagination and a gullible mind becomes "well, the AP is reporting...". It's sad, really.
As bad as things were under Nagin, IMAGINE if Morial was still in charge. He'd have been leading the looters . . . .
I heard that not only were they raping and killing children, they were unplugging baby incubators and stealing them.
Of further note. The entire Atlantic / Gulf Coast is, geophysically speaking, on what is known as a passive margin. As seafloor spreading occurs in the mid Atlantic, the plates move apart - North America moving apart from Europe and Africa. As this happens, the earth's crust cools and sinks. This is not new knowledge, it's been measured for years. Holland is the archetype for dealing with it.
Gang bangin' ... sellin' crack ...
At the suggestion of writer Michelle Malkin last Friday, I have cobbled together a blogsite called Texas Clearinghouse for Katrina Aid to serve as a clearinghouse for refugee efforts in Texas.
Texas is getting more refugees than any other state -- that's fine, we'll take them all -- but we need help providing them with food, clothing, and shelter.
If you are a refugee, you can information that will help you find relief. If you want to donate or volunteer, you can find someone who needs you.
Right now the site mostly covers Houston and Dallas but I will add various churches, schools, and other charities in San Antonio and Ft. Worth tonight. My wife is down at Reunion Arena in Dallas as we speak handing out care packages and otherwise ministering to the refugees as a representative of her employer.
There are a lot of churches and other organizations in Texas that need help in dealing with the problem and I would be most appreciative if you would get the word out.
Many thanks,
Michael McCullough
Stingray blogsite
Sh*t, if Dutch Morial were still mayor, he'd have hired EXTRA looters to come in before the storm.
Understatement of the year. This clown's IQ is frozen in an artic quagmire. IMOHO.
Iv'e worked with this level of un-expertise. He got into politics because he was inept. I'd like to see a documented copy of his resume... and others who like to bash President Bush.
Quite frankly, if I were still in college, I'd write a term paper on all of the ineptitude of the morons in politics. "Pros & Cons" would suit me fine.
The freezer, working or not, would be just about airtight, and so would have been a way for the living to separate themselves from the dead inside the dome.
Where else to put the dead? Outside to be eaten by dogs? Among the people in the arena? No one was about to live in the freezer, so it would be a logical otherwise unused and airtight place for them to put the dead.
