Where to even begin in being one more idiot talking about Hurricane Katrina? I hate the subject. It should be a news item and a humanitarian cause --a huge recovery and reconstruction effort joined in by all. It should not a political issue fit for commentary.
But the Hurricane tore at more than just the weaknesses in New Orleans inadequate levees. The shortcomings of the levee system were known to all who ever lived on the Gulf Coast, and in the end, all the levees really did was encourage expanded development in a huge geologic bowl sitting between a large lake, North Americas mightiest river, and the immense green waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The whole booby-trap was simply yet another triumph of government subsidized and directed development. And its failure was long anticipated.
What was not anticipated was the way the Hurricane tore at our human divisions.
First out of the gate were the Holy Men of the Cult of Global Warming, who couldnt wait for the first dead to wash up before they declared the Hurricane irrefutable proof of Global Warming and a direct responsibility of George W. Bush.
Next up were the racial ambulance chasers, always looking for another grievous . . .

This Nagin fellow looks mighty strange. What did he do for a living before he was elected mayor?

Exactly. It's a sad but true fact of life that any large American metropolitan center 80% black, is going to rank near the top of Western Hemisphere municipalities in drug abuse, gun crimes, murder, gangs, rape, spousal/child/ animal abuse, and civil disorder.
Jesses Jackson said that New Orleans looked like the hull of a slave ship. This morning, National Guardsmen found the corpse of the fourth or fifth child who'd been raped & murdered. She was about 6 years-old, a little girl whose body was stuffed in a freezer at the Louisiana Superdome. Her tiny throat had been slit.
You're wrong Jesse. New Orleans doesn't look like the hull of a slave ship. It looks like a typical African dictatorship, one where horror and anarchy reign, one where human ogres of the most despicable stripe imaginable, rape and murder babies because the know that here in New Orleans, they can probably get away with it.

BRAVO! Mac Johnson tells it like it is. One more reason why I like Human Events.

Jesse Jackson's presense is our clue that the place has gone to hell in a handbag on account of incompetent leftists, and he's there to spin their way out of it.
I'm not so sure it's going to work this time. There's too much evidence, and too many people are demanding answers.
I'm predicting that Blanco is gonna end up in the hospital due to a breakdown in the next 72 hours. Any betters on Nagin? :-)

Don't hold your breath. More "RUMINT" - rumor intel. Most of the worst things alleged didn't happen.

Years of democRAT leadership, social giveaway programs, corruption, and taking non-qualified police candidates are what destroyed New Orleans.

LOL! I knew there had to be something to account for his behavior...but the paranoia should have been a dead give-away.

If a butterfly flaps its wings in Central Park, its George Bushs fault. And the butterfly is racist. And it was blown there by Global Warming.Bump.

Yep.
The problem is that he was a mid-level business leader and a political virgin. He campaigned (and won) on a promise to clean out the corruption in city government; a hopeless task IMHO. He was a republican at one time, but changed over to the Rats when he figured out that a Pubbie was going NOWHERE in South LA politics (especially in NOLA).
In business, especially BIG business, important decisions are made by committee or by one or two people at the top. As mayor, the big decisions all rested on his shoulders.
Not to in any way excuse his obvious ineptitude, but Nagin is obviously in WAY over his head in a shizhole of corruption and rampant lawlessness like NOLA. He probably would have done very well in a smaller city.
