Livingston: I pressed La. gov. for martial law
The Hill ^ | September 6, 2005 | Jeff Dufour

Posted on 09/05/2005 9:58:15 PM PDT by Kaslin

Like thousands of other Washingtonians worried about family and friends in New Orleans after Katrina struck the Crescent City, former Rep. Bob Livingston (R-La.) and his wife, Bonnie, had some uneasy moments last week.

Livingston, the former Appropriations Committee chairman turned successful lobbyist, said his 83-year-old mother escaped to Shreveport with his sister and brother-in-law. His wife’s mother, also 83, fled the city just in time.

Livingston had to wait for word of the fate of his oldest son’s in-laws. On Friday, he received word that they were safe. Livingston represented the New Orleans metro area for more than 20 years. He owns a condominium and two rental properties there and feared they were damaged or destroyed.

He was particularly critical of Gov. Kathleen Blanco (D) for failing to declare martial law promptly to deter widespread looting.

“I raised hell with the governor for not declaring martial law,” he said Thursday. “I told her last [Wednesday] night I was going on ‘Hannity & Colmes’ and criticize her for not doing that, and 20 minutes later, she did.”

I agree, less finger pointing, more rolled up sleeves.

Maybe they could learn from California. How to get rid of a
worthless Democrat governor.

How many buses were put out of commission by the shortsightedness of the mayor to plan for a post-hurricane recovery effort?

If Hillary was any where near these decisions, Blanco will have an Arkancide.

I'm looking forward to those hearings. I think Blanco will be a 1 term Governor.

I honestly believe that she will choose not to run for reelection. She has been disgraced and she knows that she won't stand a chance in 2007(?).

I've heard there were over 500 public school buses - some were private contract - most were school owned

Mayor Nagin put off calling for a "mandatory evacuation" in fear of lawsuits - I'd say he also was afraid of the bus driver's unions also

Over 33% of the New Orleans police is missing in action - the official spokeman for the NOPD committed suicide as did 1 or 2 others

Some NO police were filmed holding up businesses at gunpoint while in uniform - 2 NO cops threw away their NOPD uniforms and used their stolen marked NOPD car to drive north in LA to safety - where they were stopped and arrested

NO has the highest murder rate in the USA

Go figure!

Anyone for Mardi Grai?

"Checkout this Katrina Timeline, it is VERY interesting: "

Will never get on TV during hearings. The Republicans will trot out facts and Jesse will trot out blacks.

The MSM will look at the human element and ignore the obvious.

Then the two morons will be reelected.

"Then the two morons will be reelected."

Very possible....

When you allow morons to vote, they elect fools or worse.

I think Blanco will resign. She can't take any pressure and she likely thinks she can avoid any hearing by resigning. Dumb as a rock and obviously not capable of making decisions.

I heard today that about 40k automobiles are seeping gas because they are underwater.
Why are there still 40k cars still there? I thought taht everyone was so poor that they had no cars.

I'm thinking the President should take the bull by the horn and name an independent commission post-haste and beat the dems at their own silly game.

Question: Did NautiNurse discontinue the Katrina threads?
