Let them rent limos
One of the messages I've been receiving is that those people in New Orleans have only themselves to blame. They should have left when the evacuation was ordered.
For some that is probably true. New Orleans is a laid-back city. But for many, being told to evacuate was like being told to flap their wings and fly. Nearly one in four residents is below the poverty line. Many don't have cars.
Yet the evacuation plan was based on private autos. There was no mechanism to evacuate those without cars, much less those in nursing homes and hospitals.
Have they no cars? Let them rent limos.
It is no accident that the poor weren't included in evacuation plans, if anything that can seriously be called a plan exists.

And his reply was your first clue you were dealing with an idiot?
;-)
I not only sent him a picture but the reference on Drudge to the Loisiana Disaster Plan. He called it a statement.

Uhh... well, some did!
Obviously Rick is an incompetent reporter. Or maybe he is not a reporter, but a left-wing propagandist.
The problem is that he said the lack of a plan (a lie) was "no accident."
That implies that the power structure deliberately decided to let those people sink or swim for themselves with many dying and thousands suffering.
I sent him something similar:
Rick Casey:
You missed some obvious choices that the Mayor of New Orleans could have taken.
I would like you to read an interesting article:
"My hero is a bus thief" - written by someone with the same name as you -
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/metropolitan/casey/3335904
Think about what might have happened if, on Saturday afternoon, the Mayor ordered all school buses to be placed into service, and volunteers could be drivers, and the buses were to be filled up with anyone who didn't have another means of evacuating the city.
The result would have been maybe 20,000 more people evacuated BEFORE the storm, and hundreds of buses saved (instead of being ruined!).
What a wonderful idea. It would require getting volunteers ... it would have required a little "trust", but it is something that could have been done, and would have been more effective than what the Mayor did do (which is almost nothing!).

If the poor and the infirm in Mexico and Central America can march their happy asses to the US border and cross illegally, then I'm sure the poor and infirm in NO could have moved out of the flood zone.
There used to be 500 ways to leave New Orleans.
Just get on the bus, Gus. Ooops Nagin forgot to tell ussss....
There used to be 500 ways to leave New Orleans.
Hhhhhmmmm. I've been watching news coverage of this disaster closely, and I've seen an awful lot of flooded vehicles - sitting in people's driveways.
A limo to Chicago. Now that's fleeing a hurricane in style.
Let them run linux, too.
Then he's talking about state authorities and they're democrats. Does he mean to imply the state was unprepared or is he trying to lay the blame off on the Feds?
Did everyone see how the rat politicians got out of town and left the people stranded..I wonder if the Mayor used that shiny new jet he bought with tax money from the Casinos..Then he started saying it was our presidents fault for not securing the levies that the tax money was to take care of that he lined his pockets with..These pathetic democrats make me sick..If they ran this country we would all be on state aid..Think twice before you elect a Democrat not even for dog catcher...
And as far as I am concerned the people in the shelter should be the ones that rebuild the city if they want it..I mean the big healthy men that need jobs..not the children, old people or sick people..
I believe ole Rick is missing the point. Ofcourse there were people who had no way to evacuate, but the majority could have if they wanted to. They simply chose not to and because so much time was spent on rescuing them, others died. I can't help but wonder how many died while Fats Domino and his family were being rescued.
Please keep on posting those photos. Thanks
Do we have to post that picture of the sunken schoolbuses AGAIN?
And there you have it! the new demoRAT theme song!
We all died because of yellow submarines.

No way. Didn't you hear about them ranting about the *cold* MREs? This is America - our poor are special - walking to safety is beneath them. They were waiting for tax-payer funded limo's to drive them out of danger.
