Tensions color Bush, Blanco meeting

Gov. Kathleen Blanco canceled a scheduled trip Monday to visit Louisiana evacuees in Houston shelters to stay in Baton Rouge to meet with President Bush. Blanco Communications Director Bob Mann said the governor did not learn about the Bush visit until early Monday morning. “We had no idea the president was coming,” Mann said.

Tension between the Blanco and Bush administrations has surfaced in recent days as state and federal officials try to coordinate recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

The Blanco administration clearly wanted to express their irritation with the communication about the president's trip. Blanco officials said they had heard that the president might make a visit and had been trying to get details.

As of late Sunday night, FEMA officials told Blanco that the president was not planning a visit, Mann said. One key point of coordination is the military effort to restore order and begin rebuilding infrastructure.

As of Monday morning, the National Guard from Louisiana and other states had deployed 13,268 troops in the 13 parish area affected by the storm, Louisiana National Guard spokesman Pete Schneider said. In route are 7,845 more National Guardsmen, so that by Tuesday morning 21,113 guardsmen will be in Louisiana.

Parallel to that effort, the regular Army 82nd Airborne and 1st Cavalry divisions are sending in 7,000 troops to Louisiana to arrive in the next couple of days.

Even I knew he was going to be there today. She has NO excuse!

I knew it too, and I'm a non-government employee sitting in NE Iowa with little more than a dial-up connection, an iMac, and a cat that occasionally walks on the keyboard.

Still, I get the impression that I'd be overqualified to be the Governor of Louisiana, let alone one of her aides.

They remind me of the way my mother in law projects her character and personality flaws on others.

TDubb - I believe you are a newbie troll - take it elsewhere. If Mississippi hired Clintons FEMA director I'll apologize. If you can't even be accurate about something as simple as that, go back to DU.

She wants to go to Houston so she can be associated with the successful part of the rescue mission. If she stays in LA, someone may notice that a very big chunk of responsibility for the failures falls squarely on her shoulders.

"Clinton's folks are advising Blanco, it is clear. She is a puppet, Bush will nicely move her aside."

A few days ago I saw a report, I think it was on Fox News, that Al Gore had been spotted at the NO airport. They showed a brief video of Gore but said he would not talk to their reporter. It occurred to me at the time that he was probably going to advise the Gov. on how to blame the Bush administration for everything that may go wrong.

Note to Blank-O:

BE EVER VIGILANT FOR YOU KNOW NOT WHEN THE MASTER IS COMING.

And just in case you don't know it, twit - given the enormity of the things you seem to be COMPLETELY ignorant of - the master is GEORGE WALKER BUSH.

Hey Freepers, how happy are we now that the mammals failed to put Kerry in office?

I love the "lamestream" media idea!! I think from now on FR we should refer to them as the "lsm" instead of msm....and all in small letters! They are pretty low when they can't even tell a straight story (getting all the true facts out there) We just came from Crawford, Texas with the "You Don't Speak For Me, Cindy" Caravan and very seldom did they ("lsm" ) get anything correct!!! What is wrong with these people?? Is there in hope for them???.....I truly believe that God has given them over to a "Reprobate Mind" ( that 's telling lies so long that they've actually have come to truly believe their own lies!!!)

"His wife scares the living sh*t out of me in situations like this, I don't even want to speculate how her and her toadies would react."

His [Clinton's]wife is already firmly in control:

http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2005/9/5/100013.shtml

In an indication that Mrs. Clinton intends to make the Katrina disaster her cause celeb, she announced plans to travel to New Orleans today - ostensibly to be on hand while her husband unveils a new effort to raise relief funds for city flood victims.

The former first lady said she plans to introduce legislation to make the Federal Emergency Management Agency an independent Cabinet-level agency - the same status FEMA had during her husband's administration before it was subsumed into the Department of Homeland Security.

"I bristle at the thought of the federal government imposing its will on any state for any reason."

Settled issue. 1865.

More recently, what was going on in Dec 2000 when the USSC decided the proper election mechanism, for Florida?

The federal government, in the election case, made Florida follow its own laws.

.....Next up the chain is Senator Mary L.....

She is not in the chain of command.

I doubt the wicked witch has the ability to project into a southern disaster. I doubt the DNC has the power. They might confuse the issue but have no power.

She requested 24 hours because she had long ago lost control and feared acting.

Nope...I saw it on Fox. They were talking to some guy running the shelter in Baton Rouge and asked if he was excited about his "Big Guest" coming on Monday and he said "Oh yes, we're all excited,Mr. John Travolta will be here to tour our facilities" and the news person laughed and reminded him that the Presidenet was coming and he said something like, "oh well, we have so many big guests coming it's hard to keep them all straight'!

I think this establishes that fema is exactly where it should be.

When the governors and mayors fail, the feds had to step in. It makes 100% logistical sense to keep them with homeland security.
