WASHINGTON, Sept. 5 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Following is a statement by National Organization for Women President Kim Gandy on the nomination of John Roberts to chief justice:
"The National Organization for Women has been outspoken in our opposition to the nomination of an anti-women's rights, anti-civil rights judge, John G. Roberts, to sit on the U.S. Supreme Court. Now that Roberts' attitudes toward women have been revealed, it is an outrage and an insult to the women of this country that George W. Bush has nominated such a jurist to be Chief Justice of the United States.
"First, there cannot be a 'stealth nominee' for Chief Justice. Bush must release every document from Roberts' tenure as Principal Deputy Solicitor General under the first President Bush, and any remaining writings from his time as an advisor to the Reagan administration. How dare Bush nominate this candidate for the top position on the Supreme Court when his administration has deliberately concealed hundreds of thousands of pages of his writings, during a time that he was one of the top lawyers representing the people of the United States? If the Bush administration refuses to release these papers, we must ask ourselves what they are hiding. And the Senate must ask the same question.
"The Senate Judiciary Committee and the full Senate must find its collective spine and not roll over for Bush's favored candidate. They must refuse to move forward until all requested documents are released, and they must ask even tougher questions of Roberts because of the critical nature of the Chief Justice appointment.

After Judge Roberts is confirmed, and he will be, here's my dream scenario:
The President honors Judge Bork with a recess-appointment to the Supreme Court. Judge Bork then resigns, pending Senate confirmation of his replacement. Then the President nominates his next choice for Supreme Court Justice.
Or a truckload of chimpanzees with their asses on fire.
We can only hope it pains the ACLU even more badly than it does the NOW scum.
Time to call Ralph Cramden in. It is time for the NOW gang to go TO THE MOON, TO THE MOON.
That truckload of chimps is very descriptive!!!! I'm gonna' steal that line somewhere down the road...I love it!!
NOW is an outrage to humanity.
Probably even.....gasp......has a couple of beers every now and then.......
That's one of the stupidest remarks I have ever seen on FR.
Me too. And NOW would have been just as pissed.
Thanks; you're welcome to it.
The NAGS are so 1960s. The just can't seem to get off their asses and MoveOn. Bitter, bitter women.
NOW is so ireelvant to almost be laughable. They never spoke for women as a block and as decades have passed they have now degenerated down to a bunch of haggling old hags.
Really? Well, stick around; you'll see a lot worse.
NOW?
NOLW
National Organization of Lesbian Women.
You ever notice the hags on tv screeching about sexual harrassment are people you just KNOW are in no danger of actually BEING sexually harrassed?
That statement from NOW actually makes me feel better about the nomination.
NOW is an outrage to most Americans.
Maybe Pres Bush nominated Roberts for Chief Justice to drive some of the 'rats into a Capt Queeg moment......maybe Schumer and Kennedy will go over the edge into a slobbering fit.
"...it is an outrage and an insult to the women of this country that George W. Bush has nominated such a jurist to be Chief Justice of the United States...."
I'm a woman, I live in this country, I AM NOT INSULTED OR OUTRAGED by the nomination. However I am outraged and insulted by the ridiculous Statement of NOW President.
