Katrina Live Threads, Part XV

U.S. commercial air carriers continue transporting tens of thousands of evacuees from the New Orleans airport to destinations throughout the nation.

Rooftop air rescue efforts continue. One rescue chopper crashed late today. Crew members are reported safe. Gunmen who fired upon bridge repair contractors were killed by law enforcement.

To date, an estimated 70 countries and U.S. businesses have pledged hundreds of millions of dollars, supplies, food and equipment to assist the United States' efforts in Katrina's aftermath. Lt. General Honore described the damage to Mississippi today, "all infrastructure south of Jackson, MS is either damaged or destroyed." Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice visited the devastated areas, and attended Sunday church services in Mobile, Alabama.

Elsewhere, Sean Penn's rescue boat, sans plug and full of his personal entourage, reportedly sank during launch in New Orleans. Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) threatened to punch President Bush, and Jefferson Parish President Broussard decried that the bureaucracy of FEMA has committed murder.

Streaming Video:

All information is subject to change. Many stations are relying on their corporate parents to configure and maintain Internet streaming. Because of the intense interest in the feeds, they may be unavailable at times because of network congestion or a problem feeding the video to the streaming servers.

WWL-TV New Orleans - WWL-TV is operating from studios at Louisiana Public Broadcasting. CBS has a relay during the morning and afternoon. When available, use the CBS relay first as they have greater streaming capacity. They have a secondary stream from Yahoo. WWL-TV is also offering a special low-bandwidth audio-only stream for dial-up users.

WDSU-TV New Orleans - The news staff has started to return to temporary news studios near New Orleans. However, expect evening coverage from Hearst-Argyle sister stations WAPT Jackson and WESH Orlando when the New Orleans staff needs to take a break.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

WKRG-TV Mobile, AL - This station is providing good coverage of the situation to the east in Mississippi and Alabama. However, the station is now signing off at around 10:30pm CDT like WWL and WPMI.

WJTV-TV Jackson, MS - The CBS affiliate in Jackson is providing live coverage for both the Jackson area and south Mississippi (knowing a lot of media in that area is off the air).

WFAA-TV Dallas, TX - WFAA-TV is here because Dallas is one of the evacuation cities.

United Radio From New Orleans: WWL-AM, WNOE-FM, "KISS-FM," WRNO-FM, WYLD-FM, and WJBO-AM (Clear Channel & Entercom) who have joined forces as United Radio From New Orleans, and they are streaming.

Gulf Coast Storm Network (Clear Channel Radio) - Clear Channel offers radio listeners across the gulf coast access to a simulcast emergency radio service. This service seems primarily focused on Alabama and Mississippi, but does cover Louisiana to some degree.

I don't agree that there is a PR disaster that Bush needs to pull himself out of.. I don't think that most Americans are buying what the dems, hacks and MSM is trying to feed them..

I agree with that. But I did wish when the Pres came out on Wed?Thu?Fri? that he would have been less congratulatory of the relief effort. The congratulations and praise was out of rig with news reports of loss of civil order in NOLA. His tone on Saturday was appropriate, but he could have reasonably taken that tone earlier.

Right now they are evacuating and rescueing people. After this is accomplished they shift to finding them places to stay temporaily. At this point they join the milions that already did this on their own before the storm hit. Everyone then we will file, they'll have to, for losses. Some will have insurance and be covered. Others will be benfieficieries of the public aid and government aid being joined together. In the end just about everyone will be better off than before. New homes, new cars, better heathcare, employment opportunities from citizens wishing to help get them on their feet that will get a number of these people off welfare. It'll take time, but excepting for the grief of lost loved one, pets and memorabilia, in many ways they have the fresh start so many always wish for.

"Please convey our thanks and love for him. We're praying for them all, and despite the damn politicians we're going to help these people in whatever they need and rebuild our country. We apprecate them, all our troops and rescue workers and our President.

That is such a beautiful story about that woman too."

It's TennTuxedo's posting and friend so I'll ping him for your comments. I just re-posted it. :-)

I know Haiball is a no-no for you

Thanks, we need to forward this to ALL Freepers.

I propose that from now on, the show be referred to as

Hairball with Chris Matthews.

Prayers for Katrina victims.

Rush is back tomorrow and hopefully my sanity.

Mine too.

I want to know what's going on, but I don't think I can bear another day of this mindless bashing in complete opposition to the facts.

The TV stays off tomorrow, methinks. I need to regroup.

Yes, but real character is revealed in these times and on the good side we have Brit, Fred, Moose, Jeff Birnbaum wasn't even that bad for a Lib, Sean, Levin, Tony and Rush I'm confidant on. He was leading the charge before just about anyone last week.

Because they shouldn't. It's called honesty. They should say what they believe. If everyone would do this, we wouldn't have such a mess in this country. :/ Call me naive, but I still believe in honesty.

As for what they said, I was deeply disappointed. Especially in Charles. I can only think he did not do his homework because it was Labor Day and just winged it.

"There was no 'slowness' of response on the President's or the government's part."

Isn't this making you nuts? I mean every talking head starts with that premise, and it's just plain ridiculous.

Boy, we need more of General Honore.

I too haven't heard as much about Ms and Ala and Florida...

BUT, I did watch a talk that President Bush gave to some people in Miss. today and HE sure hasn't forgotten them...and he is as involved in helping them as NO...

Actually, I would think that some departments could be doing a lot for the MS and Ala, because they aren't under 10 feet of water...

Look for reports from Rick Leventhal on Fox---he is doing a good job of reporting on MS....I don't remember who is in Alabama...

Perhaps we freepers need to put out the word to all freepers to post on this thread, any and all information from those other states...make it a priority in OUR hearts and minds at least...

Thanks for reminding me---us!!!

Do not know if/when the backup generator failed. When the last people were out of the Dome, the lights were not on inside.
