U.S. commercial air carriers continue transporting tens of thousands of evacuees from the New Orleans airport to destinations throughout the nation.

Rooftop air rescue efforts continue. One rescue chopper crashed late today. Crew members are reported safe. Gunmen who fired upon bridge repair contractors were killed by law enforcement.

To date, an estimated 70 countries and U.S. businesses have pledged hundreds of millions of dollars, supplies, food and equipment to assist the United States' efforts in Katrina's aftermath. Lt. General Honore described the damage to Mississippi today, "all infrastructure south of Jackson, MS is either damaged or destroyed." Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice visited the devastated areas, and attended Sunday church services in Mobile, Alabama.

Elsewhere, Sean Penn's rescue boat, sans plug and full of his personal entourage, reportedly sank during launch in New Orleans. Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) threatened to punch President Bush, and Jefferson Parish President Broussard decried that the bureaucracy of FEMA has committed murder.

Streaming Video:

All information is subject to change. Many stations are relying on their corporate parents to configure and maintain Internet streaming. Because of the intense interest in the feeds, they may be unavailable at times because of network congestion or a problem feeding the video to the streaming servers.

WWL-TV New Orleans - WWL-TV is operating from studios at Louisiana Public Broadcasting. CBS has a relay during the morning and afternoon. When available, use the CBS relay first as they have greater streaming capacity. They have a secondary stream from Yahoo. WWL-TV is also offering a special low-bandwidth audio-only stream for dial-up users.

WDSU-TV New Orleans - The news staff has started to return to temporary news studios near New Orleans. However, expect evening coverage from Hearst-Argyle sister stations WAPT Jackson and WESH Orlando when the New Orleans staff needs to take a break.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

WKRG-TV Mobile, AL - This station is providing good coverage of the situation to the east in Mississippi and Alabama. However, the station is now signing off at around 10:30pm CDT like WWL and WPMI.

WJTV-TV Jackson, MS - The CBS affiliate in Jackson is providing live coverage for both the Jackson area and south Mississippi (knowing a lot of media in that area is off the air).

WFAA-TV Dallas, TX - WFAA-TV is here because Dallas is one of the evacuation cities.

United Radio From New Orleans: WWL-AM, WNOE-FM, "KISS-FM," WRNO-FM, WYLD-FM, and WJBO-AM (Clear Channel & Entercom) who have joined forces as United Radio From New Orleans, and they are streaming.

Gulf Coast Storm Network (Clear Channel Radio) - Clear Channel offers radio listeners across the gulf coast access to a simulcast emergency radio service. This service seems primarily focused on Alabama and Mississippi, but does cover Louisiana to some degree.

I heard the Convention Center was never on the shelter list. So why would FEMA be looking for it.
Again, the Governor still controls the National Guard, and they were at the Superdome helping medevac and lead the people to busses.

I read (sorry, no cite) that the guard at the Dome was sending people to the Convention Center. Makes sense o send them somewhere if the Dome was full and the situation was as awful as reported.

The child looks positively dumbfounded.
%%%%

His nightmare is continuing - an upside down face coming to get him.

She is an idiot, and using him strictly for a photo-op.
Have you seen any of the shots with Poppi Bush and children? He is such a natural.

The rise in Lake P isn't the issue. The issue is the head. How high inside versus how high outside.

The counter to that is sheet piling under the repair. If it's there, the fill will hold, if not, it won't.

Keep in mind that dry ground isn't related to the head. The water table exists underground as if the land wasn't even there.

On a related note, how to you clean a water supply system that has been compromised as New Orleans' has?

Treatment can clear the major supply lines, then you need residents to run the water under a Biol Order foir a few days to clean out the "last mile".

All well and good, but that's the procedure for bioligical contamination. This system hs been compromised with chemical contamination as well.

Big job, but as posted earlier, New Orleans recovered from 5 to 7' flooding during Betsy in the 60's.

Oxygen must be showing reruns.

Gov Blanco is finding a place for a new child.

George Bush found homes for 250,000 people...by asking a state with a REAL DISASTER PLAN to pull the trigger.

The other variation is to bring in smaller ships, sink them and then refloat them. I am quite sure somebody could have grabbed a few 200 foot barges that were nearby.

I also read that the gangsters were keeping most of the food for themselves and parsed out a small amount to the people who were initially at the convention center. Problem was the crowd there kept growing.... and the gansters killed several people inside.

As the corpse's started to rot in that heat I can only imagine the stench those babies inside were exposed to. Several elderly people died outside and were covered up with blankets and you could see the color changing on those covers as body fluids leaked out.

Anyway you look at it this is a disaster of immense proportions... and there is plenty of blame to go around... I think you can actually start with the Democratic Party who skewered Bernie Kerick to the point he had to withdraw from his nomination as Homeland Security Secretary. I may be in the minority, but I think he would have been in his element in this emergency and I'd rather have a "street" person in charge any day than a bureaucrat in an extreme emergency.

Ny earlier comment:

The decision by NOLA local government (Mayor Nagin) to save the buses instead of deploying them to evacuate the "poor", the infirm, those needing help, etc. with a category 5 hurricane approaching, has been a a major factor contributing to the chaos and has lead to many unnecessary deaths. The photos of the undeployed buses sitting in 4 feet of water a half mile from the Superdome tells a terrible story. Why do we not see these photos on the media and why are reporters not questioning this? Someone obviously made a decision that keeping the buses safe by not deploying BEFORE the hurricane would not risk damaging them so they could be used AFTER the storm hit, to evacuate those who weren't dead (as well as keeping the tourist cash flow, if the hurricane misses.). New Orleans has NEVER deployed their buses to evacuate the "poor" and helpless before any hurricane. They gamble to save their preciuos buses, and now, lose lives because of it. Criminal. And everyone is blaming Bush.

There was one clip of people looting the Convention Center, taking piles of Snapple. Again, this was from foodstocks onsite before it closed from the storm, not any relief samples. Showed them loading them into trucks.

Not when the (federally mandated by the EPA) ventilated diesel tank is full of water, the engine is full of water, and it's been sitting for a few days.

90% of those engines are going to have to be replaced or rebuilt, the other 10% are going to be shaky and should be replaced anyway.

that is one legitmate criticism of FEMA, they need to get plugged into media reports more

Maybe FEMA, maybe media. The most eficient system would have the media file a report with the relevant authorities, so the authorities don't have to watch hours of repetetive pap just to learn a location that needs relief.

If the media knows this stuff, and they do, then why aren't they filing reports with the authorities? The can file with wahtever agency they want to blame on the air - then that agency will be motivated to find the right responder.
