U.S. commercial air carriers continue transporting tens of thousands of evacuees from the New Orleans airport to destinations throughout the nation.

Rooftop air rescue efforts continue. One rescue chopper crashed late today. Crew members are reported safe. Gunmen who fired upon bridge repair contractors were killed by law enforcement.

To date, an estimated 70 countries and U.S. businesses have pledged hundreds of millions of dollars, supplies, food and equipment to assist the United States' efforts in Katrina's aftermath. Lt. General Honore described the damage to Mississippi today, "all infrastructure south of Jackson, MS is either damaged or destroyed." Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice visited the devastated areas, and attended Sunday church services in Mobile, Alabama.

Elsewhere, Sean Penn's rescue boat, sans plug and full of his personal entourage, reportedly sank during launch in New Orleans. Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) threatened to punch President Bush, and Jefferson Parish President Broussard decried that the bureaucracy of FEMA has committed murder.

Streaming Video:

All information is subject to change. Many stations are relying on their corporate parents to configure and maintain Internet streaming. Because of the intense interest in the feeds, they may be unavailable at times because of network congestion or a problem feeding the video to the streaming servers.

WWL-TV New Orleans - WWL-TV is operating from studios at Louisiana Public Broadcasting. CBS has a relay during the morning and afternoon. When available, use the CBS relay first as they have greater streaming capacity. They have a secondary stream from Yahoo. WWL-TV is also offering a special low-bandwidth audio-only stream for dial-up users.

WDSU-TV New Orleans - The news staff has started to return to temporary news studios near New Orleans. However, expect evening coverage from Hearst-Argyle sister stations WAPT Jackson and WESH Orlando when the New Orleans staff needs to take a break.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

WKRG-TV Mobile, AL - This station is providing good coverage of the situation to the east in Mississippi and Alabama. However, the station is now signing off at around 10:30pm CDT like WWL and WPMI.

WJTV-TV Jackson, MS - The CBS affiliate in Jackson is providing live coverage for both the Jackson area and south Mississippi (knowing a lot of media in that area is off the air).

WFAA-TV Dallas, TX - WFAA-TV is here because Dallas is one of the evacuation cities.

United Radio From New Orleans: WWL-AM, WNOE-FM, "KISS-FM," WRNO-FM, WYLD-FM, and WJBO-AM (Clear Channel & Entercom) who have joined forces as United Radio From New Orleans, and they are streaming.

Gulf Coast Storm Network (Clear Channel Radio) - Clear Channel offers radio listeners across the gulf coast access to a simulcast emergency radio service. This service seems primarily focused on Alabama and Mississippi, but does cover Louisiana to some degree.

Just as true as anything else she's said since day one.

Last night her excuse (via an aide) was that if the Feds took over she's afraid they'd spin things and try to blame her.

Her strategy is the same as a drowning person, buy time, any way you can, pray for a miracle.

If you are talking about the Astrodome, I have trouble believing that.

It seems, reading down the thread, that there is some doubt about the worst of the violence at the Astrodome, but it is clear that there is some pretty horrid behavior going on all the same.

I heard the Convention Center was never on the shelter list. So why would FEMA be looking for it.

Again, the Governor still controls the National Guard, and they were at the Superdome helping medevac and lead the people to busses.

Why were the first troops at the Convention Center the 4th Infantry Division from Fort Hood, Texas? Mighty big disconnect there.

Keep me informed, please? I don't want to watch Brit's show until whether I know he joins the media hacks as Gibson chose to do so today.

I will catch the clip of the press conference later on the rerun, though. I want to keep that forever. LOL

They have to fix the 17th Street canal to get the pumping station back online - and so that they don't pump the water into the canal only to have it pour back in.

Yes, I know. I am just pointing out that Landrieu was on one talking head show emoting about the slow progress, and Broussard was on a competing show taking credit for personally fixing a breach, and the real story was told by a CoE superintendent.

And you believe that airstrikes are the best way to deliver "tonnage" of ordinance?

How do you think ordinance gets to a forward area?

(Hint: not by air.)

even on the live threads, we could never figure that out. that is one legitmate criticism of FEMA, they need to get plugged into media reports more - when the media is on the ground there at various locations, their reports about what is going on can provide good information - especially when the local command and control evaporates instantly at the outset of the disaster.

Yes. Having a plan on paper, which they have, looks great. However, implementing the plan takes leadership. There was none. Without the buses deployed, other parts of the plan fail. They made a decision to save the city assets (buses) and not the people.

SNOWBALL HAS BEEN FOUND!

We have confirmation from the State Veterinarian's office in Louisiana that Snowball, the little white terrier mix who was shown on many news broadcasts as he was not allowed to board the evacuee bus with his owner, is safe.

He was immediately rescued and is in the hands of caring professionals. That's all the information we know, but we thought that the many people who were concerned about him would be happy to know that he is safe.

I have been listening to this nonsense about how difficult it is to travel in this flooded city and how it is impeding the search and rescue / recovery efforts.

They need to add something as simple as this to their disaster planning.

I met a man 15 years ago who had designed and built his own very similar amphib gear. I liked his better. :~)

It's true of every shelter ever provided and this is a BIG shelter. It's 25,000 people...it's a city with it's own zip code now. There is a police force that is answering calls just like any normal police dept in a city. Some crime is going to happen. It can't ALL be prevented. The good thing is that the perps should be easier to track down.

In the early days of the evacuations I don't think they were taking the pets. I know they can't take them to the shelters for obvious reasons. As lots of animal rescue groups have ramped up their rescue operations, they are helping to care for many of them. Not wanting to leave pets seems like a recurrent theme in the list of reasons many did not use shelters or leave their homes.

While I fully understand the reasoning behind the no pet rules, maybe we need to address the issue. The truth is, many people simply won't leave their animals and having to go back in to rescue those who won't might, in the long run, be more costly to all of us than planning in advance for a few shelters where pet owners can go. I'm not sure how to work out the problems with such shelters, but perhaps their is a way.

Will do----

Bill Hemmer just reported that the Times-Picayune editorial is telling Bush to fire ever single official that let the folks in NO down..especially all of FEMA...

He didn't mention whether the TP called for the firing of the Mayor and Gov. of LA though....LOL

Hemmer did say that Pres. Bush ignored the negative and is concentrating on getting stuff done...and not pointing fingers...

B52's at Barksdale AF in LA.

70--750 pounders should do it. One load. If more needed, use more.

Probably too late now.
