New Orleans PD shot contractors - not thugs - on bridge
Mod point of clarification: The first 100 or so replies below were posted in reaction to reports that the contractors had been fatally shot.
Mod Update
The Associated Press
Police shot and killed at least five people Sunday after gunmen opened fire on a group of contractors traveling across a bridge on their way to make repairs, authorities said.
Deputy Police Chief W.J. Riley said police shot at eight people carrying guns, killing five or six.
Fourteen contractors were traveling across the Danziger Bridge under police escort when they came under fire, said John Hall, a spokesman for the Army Corps of Engineers.
They were on their way to launch barges into Lake Pontchartrain to help plug the breech in the 17th Street Canal, Hall said.
None of the contractors was killed, Hall said.
The bridge spans a canal connecting Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi River.
No other details were immediately available.

By the time the MSM get the story straightened out, it will read "conservative gunman shoots five liberals rushing to help the relief effort"!

I don't trust the AP either... it's bad because some news outlets rely so heavily on the AP it's not uncommon to see previous articles with bad info still being reported in papers and such - went to press before the story was straight. I've seen it on several occassions. It greatly contributes to mis-information and not even on purpose!!
The one thing the AP is good for is getting out info like prepared press releases of breaking news and such where the info is readily available. Overall though, I really do think standards and ethics in general regarding reporting & journalism have slipped way too far.

Off hand, who was the Impeached's Rove? Morris?

This totally off of the subject, but I saw a home in Mississippi totally destroyed except for a nice painted sign that had obviously been there before the storm that said "Martha doesn't live here and it is a good thing." I thought under the circumstances that it was really funny.

Now that we know it was the bad guys and not the contractors hit, I say "Good job!" It's ridiculous that a bunch of looters are shooting at rescue and repair forces. They like the anarchy they're living in and they want it to continue. Screw that, take those bums out!
When the NO looters were shooting at rescue helicopters, I wanted to see Cobra and Apache gunships go in and do some pest control. If those scumbags started shooting at the gunships, it would be the sorriest and shortest day of their lives.

And after they said, "Huh?", he would have said, "Drop it, or I'll shoot your sorry ass!" Maybe that's why they hesitated before dropping the loot and taking off. :-)

Overall though, I really do think standards and ethics in general regarding reporting & journalism have slipped way too far. I honestly question if there's any ethics left in the lame stream media; quite rightly, I also question what their standards have become.

I was saying that the AP originally said that the Army Corps originally confirmed that it was the police who shot at the contractors...Who was their source?
That's the only pertinent question.

AP originally said that the Army Corps originally confirmed that it was the police who shot at the contractors... The question is, if the initial report was a lie, why was it AP's first instinct to lie about this?
