New Orleans PD shot contractors - not thugs - on bridge

Police shot and killed at least five people Sunday after gunmen opened fire on a group of contractors traveling across a bridge on their way to make repairs, authorities said.

Deputy Police Chief W.J. Riley said police shot at eight people carrying guns, killing five or six.

Fourteen contractors were traveling across the Danziger Bridge under police escort when they came under fire, said John Hall, a spokesman for the Army Corps of Engineers.

They were on their way to launch barges into Lake Pontchartrain to help plug the breech in the 17th Street Canal, Hall said.

None of the contractors was killed, Hall said.

The bridge spans a canal connecting Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi River.

No other details were immediately available.

this morning I saw some footage of a heavyset, (black) NOPD officer aiming a rifle at the head of a looter with an armful of clothes.

I think that is old footage, like from Wednesday or Thursday. Yeah, I'd give that officer a medal. The ones out there working are really really showing the good side of humanity. It's literally thankless work.

somehow I didn't think they would've shot at contractors; they would know who's who. In fact, I bet the contractors wear orange vests or something to identify them.

But then I wouldn't think that the armed thugs would have had a reason to shoot at the contractors either. Guess I'm not understanding the we're gonna shoot at humans just because we can mentality.

Re: CNN. I actually thought they had outstanding reporting early on. They did so much better than Fox. Now I am back to Fox.

About 2 days about they went into entirely Bush bash mode, and the thing is...they could have kept me as a viewer since I was so disgusted with Shep and Geraldo.

But Fox got better and CNN got so much worse.

CNN just does breaking news better than Fox. I think that new leftist executive producer put out the word to get Bush on this.
