I sure hope they were thugs that were firing on the police and rescuers and not honest citizens that were armed for self-protection.

While I have much confidence in our National Guard and military personnel, I have not been so enamored by the NO PD.

I'm sure there are good people on that force; doing what they can under extreme conditions but...the No PD force is notoriously corrupt and inept. Saving an opinion until I hear more.

An MSNBC report earlier in the day said rescue helicopter personnel when they are lowered to rescue people, are finding drunk people, and people armed with guns. This report was by Ron Blum.

MSNBC says AP is reporting New Orleans police shot and killed 6 armed people on the Danzig (sp) bridge. The reporter said, "it is unclear, unclear at this point, whether the police were fired upon."
