NEW ORLEANS - Police shot eight people carrying guns on a New Orleans bridge Sunday, killing five or six of them, a deputy chief said.

Deputy Police Chief W.J. Riley said the shootings took place on the Danziger Bridge, which connects Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi River.

He said he had no other details.

Frankly, if the dead thugs were the ones shooting at the rescuers I hope they felt some pain before they departed this vale of tears. I suppose that isn't a proper Christian attitude, but I can't help the way I feel so I may as well express that feeling.

Because it's not very common for six people to ever be killed by the police in one blow. And what with the stress and fatigue as a result of Hurricane Katrina, I figure the chances of someone overreacting are high.........
