Ack! The hallmark of civilisation is that the strong give help and care to the weak and helpless.
We should make a little room for our animal friends. They did not ask for this disaster anymore than we did.
Yes, they are property, but a good steward takes good care of his property.
G-d smiles on a good steward and smites a bad steward.

The Humane Society is asking for donations for the pet victims of the hurricane. I have already donated to this good cause.

Animals do not matter in the face of the immediate life or death of humans.
This is true of any person, be they conservative, independent, or liberal.
We are stewards of animals and have dominion over them. They must suffer for our good when necessary.

Most dogs can swim -- the cargo problem might have been solved by tethering the dogs to the boat.

Apologies for sounding harsh, but my animals - my babies - are more important to me than you are.
The vast majority of humanity is less important to me than my dog and cats.
I will do whatever it takes to get them safely with me and my man.

In all the talk about why people didn't evacuate, I was acutely aware that I would not have left my cat. I saw a reference on some thread to one shelter (not one involved in this; may have been in Florida) that decided to let people bring their pets because they believed many people who refused to evacuate did so because they wouldn't leave their pets.
Anyone recall the name of that group -- I believe it was a Baptist group -- that let people bring their pets on their buses? I'd like to give them something.

You completely missed the point. It's not the animals in question, but the emotional attachment that people have to the animals. I'm not sure I could abandon my animals to get on the bus, I think I'd risk it and walk out with my dogs in tow.

I have three cats and either they come with me or we starve together. I don't care if that's psycho or not. But then, again, I'd have scooped up my three cats and all the cat food I've stockpiled and gotten out of there before the #$%^& hurricane.

Yep - my evac plan includes time to corral all three felines and a riled-up Boston.
After talking with my sister, who said she'd grab her three girls and go, my evac plan has been updated to include a swing by her place to pick up her dog and cat as well.

I have always loved my own pets, too. I am not anti-pet or anti-animal.
But when faced with a rescue boat or bus of very limited capacity and humans are suffering around you, one cannot allow our attachments to our pets to supersede our responsibility to be God's light to the world.
This means letting pets go in favor of helping even ungrateful people in such times of need and limited shared resources.
People must come first. Their souls are what most count.
That is also why we can slaughter animals for food.
