You completely missed the point. It's not the animals in question, but the emotional attachment that people have to the animals. I'm not sure I could abandon my animals to get on the bus, I think I'd risk it and walk out with my dogs in tow.

I have always loved my own pets, too. I am not anti-pet or anti-animal.
But when faced with a rescue boat or bus of very limited capacity and humans are suffering around you, one cannot allow our attachments to our pets to supersede our responsibility to be God's light to the world.
This means letting pets go in favor of helping even ungrateful people in such times of need and limited shared resources.
People must come first. Their souls are what most count.
That is also why we can slaughter animals for food.
