AO-HELP
Ambleside Online Helping Hand Emergency Learning Plan

This is a free, complete, user-friendly curriculum plan for homeschooling families who need support, encouragement and alternatives to the curriculum they've lost in a disaster, and also for churches and other groups needing to set up temporary schools for children who may not have been homeschooled. All texts and teaching materials needed to implement this plan are free online. The only things you need are access to a computer and printer, paper and pencil. Please print out and share this information freely with anyone who might need it.

SNIP

Think beyond the usual textbooks. Improvise, make the most of what you have, make things up. For example, one family was given an old board game that was too hard to use, but it had a lot of little coloured plastic pieces that fit into each other, and those became their favourite math manipulative. If your phys. ed. equipment consists of a jump rope and a ball, look for new ways to use them instead of worrying that you don't have access to more than that.

SNIP
- a big section with links and such detailing info for specific subjects,
and a weekly schedule found at "more link below, and at resource link"...

Please know that as we prepare this AO-HELP, we realize that anyone needing to use this has been through a terrible experience. As we put these links and plans together, we are praying for you, and trusting that God will give you peace and comfort, and that your home - wherever it is - will be healed and blessed.

Being a homeschooler I can't imagine how it would feel to have lost everything. I would imagine having this info would help me to feel not quite so helpless...

This curriculum is free and it is based on the Charlotte Mason teaching method. (There is a complete curriculum for 0-12 grades on the site as well.) I have heard it is an especially good method for children with short attention spans (as many dealing with the shock of this tragedy have right now...).

Please forward this information to other individuals, charities, and church organizations over the next few days as they attempt to restore normalcy to these people's lives whatever way they can.

This is a great idea. Kudos to whoever thought it up.

I got wind of it through a homeschool email group I'm on. I thought it was fantastic as well. I was thinking the other night of the poor homeschoolers who will probably be tempted/encouraged to enroll children in the public schools against/despite their convictions. Homeschooling is hard enough without a disaster, and I'm glad to see others supporting them like this! (o:

I've heard that HSLDA is doing something as well.

I'm sorry if this is the same thing.

Liberty, this is awesome! My only question is how many displaced people will have access to a computer? Have the relief centers been gifted?

One of the big phone companies has come in to the Astrodome and set up at least 40 computers(last I heard) to the internet. I'm not sure about printers.

That's an awesome place to donate!

No, it's definitely not the same. The link I gave is more of a temporary thing intended to give kids something to do right away - in shelters and such as well as until people are able to purchase or be given more books... The link you provided is for actually buying new curriculum for those affected.

These resources provide a great way for HomeschoolFreepers to get involved - please donate & spread the word of these two ideas!

I'm guessing that computers will be a big thing to donate. I heard of someone here collecting computers to help business owners, and I'm sure they will be looking for computers to help people find employment and such.

I think what would be a good idea is try to find email addresses for designated shelters and send the links by email so they can hook up with 1.) the website addy for immediate things to do & 2.) the donation link to help the homeschoolers who may be in their care.

Those freepers that know of shelters in your immediate area, please attempt to make sure they know about these resources. I think it would be worthwhile. (o:
