Bill Clinton For Chief Justice of SCOTUS
vanity | 4 September 2005 | Vanity

One of the unfortunate diseases of the body politic has been the increasing politicalization of the US Supreme Court. This was not caused by conservatives; however, perhaps it should be solved by a conservative President.

One outstanding chance is now upon us. Most likely, President Bush will take the safe road and go through the political gauntlet and appoint a known conservative judge. What we really need is a break in the partisanship of the appointment process. Nominating former President Clinton would give everyone pause and begin a process where politicians (mostly, but not exclusively Democrats) can cease making efforts to please narrow interest groups in the selection process.

I know former President Clinton has personal flaws. I also know his reputation for politically catering to the pro-choicers and so forth. If any of you know a successful politiican, you know how much many of them hate being jerked around by special interest groups. I do believe Clinton began as a centrist in his party and did sign the welfare reform bill and so forth.

I could give his other qualifications, but I will leave it here.

Too true, and I should know better. Galigula it is.

I have been watching too much news and reading too many posts. Thanks for the correction.

Itis rather hysterical.
They showed video of BMX racers piling up, or wiping out.
They have verious themes, from wipeouts to explosions.
As well as people being messed up by animals.

Google "Clinton Disbarred" and you get hundreds of stories. Here are just two:

1) Former President Clinton disbarred from practicing before Supreme Court ABC news story of October 1, 2001 (http://www.lib.umich.edu/govdocs/impeach.html)

2)Clinton disbarred from Supreme Court, (http://www.enterstageright.com/archive/articles/1001/1001tidbits2.htm)

"This may cause some unhappiness. I am a life-long conservative and have not voted RAT since Adlai Stevenson in 1956."

Is this perhaps senile dementia setting in? I turned one in 1956, so I suppose you could say I don't know much about the politics of the era, but I suspect Stevenson would be considered far-right by most of today's liberals.

I think my major objection to this idea is that Clinton is most assuredly not anyone I'd want to see on THAT bench, ever. Not to mention that he's disbarred. Poor choice for Supreme Justice, IMO. I don't mind the current administration using him as the liberal poster-child for bipartisanship, but I don't ever want to see him in a substantial official position again. Has-been he is, has-been he needs to stay.

"Can you imagine the constitutional crisis we'll have when Ruth Bader Ginsberg files sexual harassment charges against Chief Justice Clinton? Do you really want that??"

I am SO glad my daugher hadn't brought my drink yet, or my computer would be wearing it. Since it's a laptop, shortly thereafter, I'd need to replace it.

Sorry, I meant what I said as an off-color joke. I added an r, as in reference to a certain part of the male anatomy and a certain fling he had with a certain intern. I know he was disbarred.

How about this: there is nothing "partisan" about being able to read. The ONLY, let me repeat, ONLY, qualification for being a USSC justice is that you can read the Constitution.

Clinton flunks. He missed the "abuse of power" part.

OUTSTANDING IDEA! Appoint him and then let CONGRESS impeach and remove him as they should have done years ago. And while they are at it, IMPEACH AND REMOVE THE REST!
Leave Thomas, Scalia, and Rehnquist and restrict their jurisdiction to Original jurisdiction cases only.

Wow.

It's been more than 5 hours and about 200 posts since this zot-brained idea was posted.

Due to the fact he has been a FReeper since 1999, I suppose the mods are being nice and decided not to zot him.

Lord knows if I (since April) or any other newbie had posted this, we have have been spitting ozone.

You have lost your ever loving mind. Bill Clinton was never a centrist and George Bush would never appoint him.

Are you just lonely and need people to talk to and this is your way of making it happen?????????

I42 is barred from lawyering at the supreme court ..and in Arkansas.

Supposedly Caligula planned to make his horse Incitatus consul (but had not actually done so by the time he was assassinated).

Why would you want to inflict that sociopath on America again? Wasn't eight years enough? Bush and the country are still reeling from with the wreck he made of this country's security. Think Able Danger. Think Sandy Burglar. Think 9/11. China and all those technological secrets handed over for political contributions. Good grief. You must be joking.

Bill wants to be Emperor of the World, in other words, head of the UN. The job of Supreme Court justice isn't his cup of tea. Bill can't live without public attention. He's a narcissist, a sociopath...with all that implies.
