Bill Clinton For Chief Justice of SCOTUS
vanity | 4 September 2005 | Vanity

One of the unfortunate diseases of the body politic has been the increasing politicalization of the US Supreme Court. This was not caused by conservatives; however, perhaps it should be solved by a conservative President.

One outstanding chance is now upon us. Most likely, President Bush will take the safe road and go through the political gauntlet and appoint a known conservative judge. What we really need is a break in the partisanship of the appointment process. Nominating former President Clinton would give everyone pause and begin a process where politicians (mostly, but not exclusively Democrats) can cease making efforts to please narrow interest groups in the selection process.

I know former President Clinton has personal flaws. I also know his reputation for politically catering to the pro-choicers and so forth. If any of you know a successful politiican, you know how much many of them hate being jerked around by special interest groups. I do believe Clinton began as a centrist in his party and did sign the welfare reform bill and so forth.

I could give his other qualifications, but I will leave it here.

You have to admit, Slick Willie would never turn down the chance to get on the court, he would welcome the opportunity. Sadly, the pubbies would't have the stones to nail him at the hearings.

It would probably more resemble the Monty Python Inquisition skit than what the Dems have in store for Rehnquist's replacement.

You know...Bill could really feel folk's pain as chief justice. And plus, there are alot of paralegal interns he could bring into the court, and "educate". I think this would bring a dynamic to the court that we have never seen.

Many funny one liners but no real thought.

You obviously didn't read before responding. Several were well considered replies.

Better get back on your meds.

And I'd ask your doctor for a stronger prescription while you're at it.

LOL. Okay, I am not the moderator, but then again, I do not press the abuse button at the drop of a hat. As a matter of fact, I have never pressed the abuse button.

The problem with satire in todays environment, is that there is nothing regarding the democrats that can be easily separated from satire. For satire to be effective, there has to be at least some means of separating it from reality, otherwise, it is a commentary or version of reality.

There was a post on one of the other threads, stating the Democrats had hired planes with banners to fly around the affected areas with various slogans on them implying that Bush was to blame.

My first reaction was, is this true? How can I verify this? I could not disregard it out of hand that the Liberals would not do something like that. Behavior such as that is part of reality today.

So, satire, is difficult, particularly electronic satire, and satire regarding politics. Have you noticed how it has become increasingly difficult to differentiate the things posted at Scrappleface and the Onion from actual events?

What would we have thought 30 years ago about calls to impeach the President and fire the SOD because some prisoners had womens underwear put on their heads?

Anyway, I did see the humor in it, but with the way political reality is today, I try to find it in nearly everything!

You forgot your \SATIRE tag...:)

We can't have a CJ who will wear nothing under his robe.

Now that's a funny joke. I don't care who you are.
