One of the unfortunate diseases of the body politic has been the increasing politicalization of the US Supreme Court. This was not caused by conservatives; however, perhaps it should be solved by a conservative President.
One outstanding chance is now upon us. Most likely, President Bush will take the safe road and go through the political gauntlet and appoint a known conservative judge. What we really need is a break in the partisanship of the appointment process. Nominating former President Clinton would give everyone pause and begin a process where politicians (mostly, but not exclusively Democrats) can cease making efforts to please narrow interest groups in the selection process.
I know former President Clinton has personal flaws. I also know his reputation for politically catering to the pro-choicers and so forth. If any of you know a successful politiican, you know how much many of them hate being jerked around by special interest groups. I do believe Clinton began as a centrist in his party and did sign the welfare reform bill and so forth.
I could give his other qualifications, but I will leave it here.
there IS that little matter of his losing his law license sand being disbarred from SCOTUS, but why let little details get in the way?
It would be a possible first to have a SC justice who had had his law licence suspended.
I think Clinton's appointment would be great. He could hand down a decision that would outlaw breast reduction surgery.

..."Clinton was impeached as President of the United States on December 19, 1998 by the House of Representatives. The charges were perjury and obstruction of justice. The Senate acquitted Clinton on both counts in a trial concluding on February 12, 1999. The day before leaving office, Clinton agreed to a five year suspension of his Arkansas law license as part of an agreement with the independent counsel to end the investigation. Based on this suspension, Clinton was also automatically suspended from the United States Supreme Court bar, from which he chose to resign. Clinton's resignation will have little practical effect. He has never practiced before the Supreme Court and was not expected to in the future....
LOL But the ABA wouldn't mention that small detail.
What medicine are you taking or not taking? He is not fit for dog catcher.
That other site says Gore should be appointed to bring us together.
Perhaps you could list the topic as humor.
Dear shrinkermd,
"I could give his other qualifications, but I will leave it here."
I'm skeptical that you could, as I don't believe that Mr. Clinton has any qualifications to be a Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.
Heck, he's not even a lawyer.

FRiend, back away from the keyboard, call your doctor, and get some meds.
War is hell. You serve no one when you capitulate before the first round is fired.
This is best for the country? Go take your medicine. Now, you will feel better and quit posting nonsense. You want a disbarred lawyer on the SC?
They are still desperately struggling to wash the stench from Clinton's sexcapades out of the Oval office-and you are suggesting that we now give him the opportunity, to turn the Supreme Court into a house of ill repute? Are you series???
Someone is pulling the chain of a whole bunch of FReepers.
Great...rulings for blow jobs...
I'd hate to be his mailbox right now.
Unlike most people on SCOTUS he has held elected office, has many contacts with the real world even though we might disagree with these people and his political positions have been more centrist than his party.
Finally, his life experience of coming from nothing to become POTUS surely suggests he has some intelligence and ability above and beyond the average person.
His appointment might drive a stake into the heart of all the special interests that continuously make any judicial appointments fractious and partisan. It would not end them, but President Bush by this unexpected gift to the opposition would show his recognition of their interests even though he disagrees with them.
As to all the posts--100% so far--who take askance as to this idea, I can only say that sometimes the real world dictates compromise and cooperation rather than endless ad hominem attacks and other name calling.
Clinton on the U.S. Supreme Court during a Bush term: "COLD DAY IN HELL!"
Dear shrinkermd,
"In respect to qualifications, former President Clinton did teach constitutional law before becoming Governor of Arkansas."
This is conceded by most fair observers to have been a favor to Mr. Clinton, obtained through his already-formidable political connections in the state of Arkansas. Mr. Clinton was no more qualified to teach constitutional law than me.
"Unlike most people on SCOTUS he has held elected office, has many contacts with the real world even though we might disagree with these people and his political positions have been more centrist than his party."
That's nice, but not a qualification to be a Justice of the Supreme Court. If someone were otherwise qualified, it would obtain "bonus points."
"Finally, his life experience of coming from nothing to become POTUS surely suggests he has some intelligence and ability above and beyond the average person."
False premise. Mr. Clinton grew up middle class, the stepson of a well-off man, who never lacked for anything he needed, and much of what he wanted. He is a typical middle-class Baby Boomer, with all the strengths and flaws attached thereto, only magnified due to his ability to lie, cheat, and steal his way to the highest office in the land.
Having met Mr. Clinton in person on several occasions, I can assure you, he is evil. Charming, charismatic, intensely magnetic, and evil.
"His appointment might drive a stake into the heart of all the special interests that continuously make any judicial appointments fractious and partisan."
Only if we were able to actually catch him on videotape taking money from parties with cases before the Court, in that we would have proof of the intrinsic corruption inherent in the Left. And even then, perhaps not.
Seriously, there's no evidence of that at all. The Party of Satan would be delighted by his appointment, but would find no reason to reciprocate out of a spirit of bipartisanship. If they did, they would cease to be the Party of Satan.
"It would not end them, but President Bush by this unexpected gift to the opposition would show his recognition of their interests even though he disagrees with them."
He has done that time and again, only to be slapped hard in thanks by the Party of Satan. Remember the No Child Left Behind Act, in which he gave away the store to Chappaquiddick Ted, only to be slapped down by the old murderer, himself?
"As to all the posts--100% so far--who take askance as to this idea, I can only say that sometimes the real world dictates compromise and cooperation rather than endless ad hominem attacks and other name calling."
You haven't shown any evidence at all, whatsoever, of a need to commit this crime of infamy.
Heck, it's such a ridiculously bad idea, that a lot of posters, including the Admin Moderator, aren't even taking you seriously (ping the Admin Moderator because I mentioned you here). Perhaps they're right.
