Why would a junior justice ever be made Chief Justice? Only Scalia or Thomas make sense as candidates for the top post.

If I'm not mistaken- this is the first reference of any kind made by the senator from MA to the disaster on the Gulf Coast.

Is Garza a *TRUE* conservative?

If yes, then Bush can knock 3 birds with one shot:

1) First Hispanic
2) Conservative replacement
3) Minority Chief Justice

I don't see why the White House and the Senators, within a few days at least, shouldn't do the regular business of government while also processing issues related to the Hurricane Katrina disaster.

Sen. Edward Kennedy (news, bio, voting record), a Massachusetts Democrat, said the consideration of successors to Rehnquist and O'Connor should be held off to allow the Bush administration and Congress to focus on the Katrina disaster.

Translation: Our ad blitz to demonize Roberts is going to sound really lame while we're burying people in three states.

Senator Kennedy needs more time to make the gasoline shortage worse with the help of his envirowacko friends.

Let us not forget that Clinton was able to get Justice Ginsburg seated in 40 days.

Kennedy knows he is a loser, and is trying to cause more pain and suffering on the American people.

" . . . Kennedy . . . said the consideration of successors to Rehnquist and O'Connor should be held off to allow the Bush administration and Congress to focus on the Katrina disaster."

You fat drunken murderer, maybe NASA should have postponed the first Moon landing because you drove off a bridge in 69?

Does he mean the President and Congress are heading down to help clean up, deal with the bodies of the dead, facilitate handling of evacuees, etc? AFAIK Frist is the only one down there actually helping. (I do think he's a genuinely good man, regardless of his shortcomings in the political arena.)

There seem to be good people in charge down there now. If they need help, they'll ask for it. They don't need the sort of hindrance that Ted Kennedy et al. with too much time on the hands would provide.

Isn't Ted Kennedy's brother-in-law someone from Louisiana that helped implicate Hillary Clinton's campaign of illegal donations and fraud?

Is not Ted Kennedy's brother-in-law from Louisiana the person who was in hot water on Federal charges that helped persuade him to help implicate other politicians so he might have company in jail?

Is this not the same Ted Kennedy that should have done time for drunk driving and manslaughter over th death of a young lady that he was out alone with (a married man out with a young single lady on a weekend night?)

Maybe the Democrats can get a better mouthpiece than someone who has helped gasoline prices rise over $4 a gallon because of his help in implementing envirowacko policies to plague the US and help cause gasoline shortages.

Pres. Bush needs to show his respect for blacks everywhere by appointing Justice Clarence Thomas as the first black Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. He's young enough to hold the post for decades. I'm sure that choice would be lauded by the Leftist press and race pimps and the ACLU.

Teddy is just looking for a delay - he figures that if he can put it on hold for a few months or a year, then the Dems can put off the nomination until after Bush is gone. Alcohol has truly pickled his brain if he thinks that the rest of us can't see through this ploy.
