War Protesters Link Iraq, Katrina

Under an "Impeach Bush" banner on a wall of the Minnesota State Capitol, anti-war speakers tried Saturday to link the Iraq war to a slow response to Hurricane Katrina.
It was part of the "Bring Them Home Now" national bus tour initiated by Cindy Sheehan, the mother who camped near President Bush's Texas ranch to demand that he talk with her about the death of her soldier son.
Sheehan was in the South on another bus Saturday, but about 350 people showed up in St. Paul to hear out-of-state speakers, along with local legislators, candidates and clergy members decry the war and question the president's moral values in waging it.
Several speakers suggested victims of Hurricane Katrina would have been better off had National Guard forces, and the money used to send the troops to Iraq, been here to help them.
"People are dying in Louisiana and New Orleans right now" because Bush, a "warmonger," is intent on "looting" oil in Iraq, said state Rep. Keith Ellison, DFL-Minneapolis.

The war is "immoral, illegal, irrational," said the Rev. Lowell Erdahl, bishop emeritus of the St. Paul Area Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

However, Kathy Dunaway, of Forest Lake, one of the counter-protesters, disagreed. "How can you support an individual who is laying their life on the line for their country and the Iraqi people, and not support the cause?" she said.
The counterprotesters are part of a national effort by Operation Iraqi Hope, based in Austin, Texas, that seeks to dispute the message of the Sheehan supporters.

Kathy Dunaway seems like an honorary Freeper.
BTW, the statement from the ELCA bishop disgusts me...although it does not surprise me.

I was just being satirical when I posted this on another thread, but it looks like the shoe fits...
[[Is it a coincidence that hurricane Katrina just "happened" to hit the greatest concentration of oil refineries in the U.S. so that now Bush's buddies in the petroleum industry "have no choice" but to jack up the prices?! And is it also a coincidence when the same hurricane just "happens" to target a majority African-American city, killing mostly African-Americans?! NO MORE HURRICANES FOR OIL!!!]]]

Let oil stay at $70 or more for a few years, and the American people won't respond to claims that wars are being waged "just for oil" quite the same way.

Ha, ha, funny post but not as farfetched as one would believe. Thanks to the libs in big media, the ignorati, who make up a large percentage of the nation's population, think that somehow because Bush didn't enact Kyoto, we have hurricanes. Obviously if a rich idiot like R. Kennedy Jr. believes it, I'm sure countless other dopey libs and Dem-voters believe it.
Yes that's right folks, less than four years after he was elected, the failure of Bush to pass stupid "environment" laws, which even if you believe the enviro-nuts about Kyoto's effects would have lowered the earth's temperature by only a fraction of one percent in four years, caused a disastrous hurricane...which even most reputable scientists say are not caused by warming sea water. You just have to throw up your hands at the stupidity of the libs.

FRom a Code Pink mailer:
In the wake of the horrific devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina, further compounded by the Bush Administration's disastrous response, the women and men of CODEPINK are fully mobilized to be of service in every way possible. It is heart-wrenching to see the disconsolate faces of our brothers and sisters begging their nation for help. Most tragic are the anguished images of unsheltered mothers, clutching hungry babies while searching for food. All this, while our critically needed National Guard, the homeland's primary protectors, are deployed to battle an illegal, unjustifiable war. Tragically, the misdeeds of the Federal Government have shredded America's ability to take care of its own. Nearly 40% of our National Guard and Army reservists are currently fighting in Iraq. And while the National Guard of each state serves under authority of the Governor, the Bush Administration has commandeered their critical services, forced them overseas, and depleted America's own strength at home.

men of CODEPINK--Man every time hear that I think of a bunch of guys in pink tights and tutus cleaning up stuff. AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!
It's not fair. I thought us teachers would be blamed for Katrina. I've gotten used to being blamed for many of the problems in society.
Those people using the war to blame Bush for Katrina are just plain "dumb" as my first graders might say (actually in my class, the first graders have been trained by their parents that words like "stupid" and "shup up" are bad words). I have to watch what I say sometimes. One time these girls came with a flipchart used for making words. They thought it was bad because they could make the word fart on it. We do rhyming families and I've never done the --uck one because of you know what. However, I had to stop doing the --it one too when a little girl who didn't know what the word meant blurted out "sh--!" There was a pretty big gasp.
