Al Sharpton: Looters Were Angry Taxpayers
NewsMax ^ | 9/3/05 | NewsMax

Rev. Al Sharpton said Thursday that looters who terrorized flood-ravaged New Orleans this week acted out of anger that the services paid for with their taxes were not available.

"The ones that are looting are people there that work paycheck to paycheck, [who] paid their taxes for an infrastructure that collapsed on them," Sharpton told MSNBC's "Countdown." "People in that kind of environment are responding in all kinds of insane ways," he explained. "It doesn`t justify TVs being stolen, but clearly to get water and to get food and to get milk for babies, even though it is not refrigerated, certainly, you could [not] call that looting."

The firebrand agitator blamed President Bush for the looting, saying much of the unrest took place while the "pharaoh diddled in his suburban Rome in Crawford, Texas."

"The president stays on vacation, comes back a day late and a dollar short? I mean, this is an outright . . . " he complained, without finishing the sentence.

I am guessing that many if not most of these people pay no taxes other than sales tax and nothing justifies rape and murder.

Sure Al can empathize with the looters, he has been doing the same for years.

Former Governer Edwin Edwards (D) sits in prison in Texas because of Federal corruption charges. The City Hall of New Orleans was caught in an Federal investigation of systematic bribery through a number of major cities using certain contractors.

I agree that tax money didn't go where it should have. Blame rotten to the core DemocRATS who stole it.

The lefty's had better get with the program. Each and every time they continue this rant about Bush's fault, we can't do it right, we are in peril, our infrastructure is our weakness, our oil is the key,

it gives the enemy the impetus and the idea that now is the time to hit us.

And when they do, I will blame every single one of them who in their haste to do damage to Bush are going to get us killed because they can't see America, only politics.

ALL the media have been running about like hysterical ninnies who have accomplished zilch, nada, zip, zero and added fat to the fire. They all should be caned.

(Disclaimer: I'm a libertarian leaning Green which isn't a contradiction because while I live Green, I believe government is not to coerce. It's a choice)

paycheck to paycheck???

Does Al have an e-mail address where he could be asked for his primary sources for this statement?

I'm thinking these thugs deliberately didn't leave knowing they could freely loot after most people left.

BTW everyone in Louisiana knew that Edwin Edwards was corrupt when they elected him over David Duke. It was like chosing between Stalin and Hitler. THIS is when there was REAL opportunity for a third party candidate to take office; the other two offered no real choice (and for the record David Duke ran as a Democrat and Independent before he ran as a Republican and I think he's a third party candidate again).

Certainly such tactic is not new among looters.

Precisely. Not a single one of those pillaging savages has EVER paid a dime in income taxes.

I'm sure the Earned Income [Welfare] Credit means I paid for THEIR refund.

Have Revs. Al and Jesse EVER condemned the criminal activity of one of their own?

I can never recall either of them saying "the brutha done wrong"...just an endless litany of excuses and rationalizations that fuels this entitlement mentality.

"I am guessing that many if not most of these people pay no taxes other than sales tax and nothing justifies rape and murder."

I liked the guy I saw on TV last night. O'Reilly was questioning this 'black civil rights activist' about the looting specifically what he would do if he found a guy with five big screen tvs in his living room. The guy said: "the real question is why did he take the tvs? If he took them to trade for food then more power to him." Even O'Reilly didn't buy this trash.

In that case, Al ought to know what to expect when Social Security goes bust.
